Anyone not wearing/or did not wear a white dress?

Lynsey, on August 28, 2015 at 5:18 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18

I'm the kind of person that doesn't really like white. I'm partial to black, red, purples and anything dark. White has never been flattering so I will be looking for a dress that is not white. Anyone else not wear white on their wedding day?

    I not wearing white. I'm having my mother make me a yellow gown. It's my favorite color and like the way it looks on me. I did try on white dresses, but always knew that as pretty as they were they didn't have the 'it' factor.

    I'm wearing white but I've seen brides on here looking for all sorts of different color wedding dresses. A lot if designers are making different color wedding dresses now and my friend is planning on a red dress for her wedding so it's definitely doable. She's even excited since she found a red one that her mother doesn't hate.

    I've looked at red dresses myself but I think that would be to much red for me personally. I found this on etsy one day and this is definitely up my alley. Absolutely love it!

    I had a friend wear a beautiful lavender Monique lhuillier ball gown. It's your day so wear what you like and will you make you happy.

    I haven't gone to try anything on yet so I'm not sure on the style I'm looking for. I don't usually wear dresses much on a day to day basis as it is so it's going to be different for me

    I think our conception of a wedding dress--must be white, and froofy, and have a train, and cost an arm and a leg--is much too narrow. Before Queen Victoria, women just wore their best dresses to be married. Queen Victoria introduced the white wedding dress as an item of conspicuous consumption--proving that you had the wealth to buy an expensive dress that would be totally impractical ever to wear again. Unfortunately, a lot of women of much more modest means have thought they had to follow suit.

    So a colored wedding dress would be wonderful. Or just an evening gown or party dress that makes you feel beautiful. There is no magic to white.

    PS: My mother wore a pink wedding dress when she got married in 1950.

    Lynsey, I love the purple gown, so romantic! I'm wearing a blush/rose gown with pink art deco beading all over it. Smiley laugh

    I found that dress on etsy believe it or not Lyn. I saw it and fell in love. Not sure I want to spend the $500 on it though. I'm still looking around Smiley smile

    Lynsey - since you want a non traditional color, you might find something similar for less at stores that also carry prom dresses! Although that dress above is very beautiful

    Lynsey, Etsy is my new favorite store! I got my wedding jewelry, purse, and bands from there and everything's been perfect so far. $500 isn't bad for a dress with that much detailing.

    My dress was champagne, so not far from white, but I did try on some colored dresses. One was pink and there was a blue dress I was seriously considering. My runner up dress was white, but it had a purple belt. The purple dress is lovely. If you want color you should definitely got for it.

    @Lynsey I recognize the dress you love is sold by WeddingDressFantasy.com (through their etsy shop). While $500 is a good bit of money i know they make really stunning quality items and the best part is they are made to your exact measurements so you will not have to pay additional money in alterations, which might actually save you some money. No pressure I just wanted to put in my two cents ;-)

    @Lovebubbles,

    Thank you for the information! I may definitely consider going through them.

    My idea though, sure $500 isn't bad but I don't want to spend that much on a dress I will likely never wear again, you know what I mean? I have definitely looked around for "prom" type dresses because I want something in color rather than white. I absolutely adore the one posted above but I'm willing to compromise and look elsewhere just in case there is something that is better.

    @Lyn,

    I absolutely love Etsy also. Bought quite a bit of jewelry off there (not wedding related) as well as a few gifts. Can't stay off that site!

    @Spazzytazy,

    Glad I'm not the only inked bride on here! ;-)
