Anyone not use flowers??

Geralyn, on October 19, 2016 at 4:24 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 26

Soooooo I've never been a flower person and they're so dang expensive. Did anyone not do flowers? Not big on idea of fake flowers. My wedding is in October so thinking maybe pine cones and leaves for bouquets. Any ideas and advice is appreciated! Also photos would be helpful of things you girls did not using flowers.

I've seen people use wheat bundles, im sure plain greenery would be pretty too, if done right

I'm not a flowery girl either, so I'm mostly using greenery and succulents.

Pricing it out online...well, if you're doing bouts, bouquets, corsages, centerpieces (garlands) etc, I don't think it's really that much cheaper to be honest.

I'm waiting to hear back from a florist to see how much she'll charge. You may be able to cut it down a bit, especially if you don't use floral items at all for centerpieces/decor, but it may not be as much as you hope.

I also think it depends on the greenery though. I'm planning on using eucalyptus, which is more expensive greenery. Boxwood is pretty affordable though.

I did fake flowers for bouquets and no flowers for centerpieces. They were beautiful and not too expensive, but honestly I could have done without them. Myself and my BMs held them for the whole 20 minute ceremony and then you never saw them again. I don't think I would have missed them if I had just gone without.

How about a bouquet made of book pages or sheet music?

Also consider using tons of lighting instead of flowers. Smiley smile

I think pine cones and leaves could be beautiful. I've seen people go with just candles and I've also seen cool centerpieces with books.

I am wondering about Flower alternatives too! It's so much money for something that will die immediately!

I'm a bridal consultant and a bride, and I actually had a bride make a bouquet out of old maps. I think I remember her saying she and her FH were long distance and getting married in a different state than where they lived and it symbolized that they loved to travel. Sounds like you got some great ideas, good luck!

My sister told me about a wedding she was in; her friend did not use any flowers for centerpieces but instead used candles and it was beautiful. For bouquet replacements, I've seen brides and bridesmaids use very cute clutches instead, which I liked the look of. I've also seen paper flowers, felt/fabric/leather flowers, brooch bouquets, lanterns, feathers, fans, balloons, books, parasols, muffs, dried flowers, ribbons... the possibilities are endless, really. You could have them hold dinosaur figurines or gameboys or baskets full of candy, whatever, just as long as it sticks to your theme and isn't totally random. If you're not completely opposed to flowers, you could have each bridesmaid carry one stem of a larger flower like a sunflower or stem of hydrangea, or even just a single rose. This would be cost effective and you could even have someone pick up some flowers from a grocery store the night before the wedding, as long as you keep them in water until the wedding--then tie a ribbon around the stem and let that flow. You could also do a bouquet of greens only. Also keep in mind the bridesmaids don't necessarily have to hold anything at all; they could just take the arm of the groomsman they walk down the aisle with. It's all your call. Good luck!

I was considering a flowerless wedding too, mostly for allergy reasons. I asked my BMs how they felt about it and they were ok with it, they just wanted me to be sure they had something to carry. It gives them something to do with their hands. So my two cents are, if you wanna skip the flowers, skip them, but definitely replace them with something for your BMs' sake

I'm doing terrariums with little succulents in fish bowls with candles scattered around for the centerpieces and one big flower, like a sunflower for the bridesmaids. They come in yellow, orange, red, and a darker almost brown. And they're $4 for a bunch/bouquet at trade joes or Whole Foods. They're really inexpensive anywhere you go. Scatter little candles everywhere and it'll look good. There cheap in bulk on Amazon, at party city and michaels always has coupons.

Another idea I've seen that was really cute, a shallow platter or bowl filled with water with 2 or 3 candles floating in it and 2 or 3 flowers floating. You can get the candles from the dollar tree and it was really cute.

My husband and I had an October wedding last year and I didn't use many flowers. I'm not really into flowers either. I had a small bouquet of fake wildflowers (ordered from Etsy) just for me (I figured I can have it as a keepsake and put it out as a fall decoration every year). Then I used fake leaves and votive candles on the tables and mason jars modge podged with leaves and a tealight candle inside as centerpieces. We didn't have a bridal party, so I didn't have to figure out something (if anything) for anyone to carry down the aisle.

I went to a wedding recently where the only flowers were the girls bouquets, and they were from Stop & Shop. She had non floral center pieces and skipped boutonnière corsages etc.
