Anyone here buy their dress from Macy's?

Patricia, on October 10, 2010 at 3:17 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5

I bought a Demetrios gown from Macy's in Wayne, NJ late this June. They said 6 mos for it to come in. I ordered a 10 though the girl said I was 5lbs from the 8, bc I was afraid the 8 might cost more to adjust than taking in the 10. I'm tall, 5'8.5", but wearing flats, so the hem shouldn't need adjusted. I will get the French bustle and the dress's thin straps removed, the straight bustline made into a sweetheart neckline, as well as the waist, hips, and bust taken in to make it close to the sz8 she recommended. However, I forgot to ask for an estimate for these alterations!

Has anyone here bought their dress at Macy's? If so, what did they charge you to alter it? Did they do a good job/does Macy's have good standards? I see posts saying to avoid bridal salon alterations in general, but am afraid to go to just any seamstress; at least if Macy's messes it up they owe me another dress.

*Bump* My Macy's doesn't have a bridal section but lets see if someone else can help you out.

Michelle, Macy's actually has a formal bridal salon in some stores, not like a section of the store where you can buy off the rack...it's a separate (pretty adorable) little shop inside the store, though obviously not every Macy's has one. Patricia, I considered buying a dress at the Macy's in Edison, but I didn't get an estimate either. Their customer service is REALLY good, so consider just calling them and asking whoever answers the phone.

Rosie, good to hear they have good customer service. I'm eagerly waiting for the end of December, when my dress should arrive.

I'd just call and ask how much alterations cost. Most bridal places I heard of have an hourly fee. You can even tell them the type of alterations and they may be able to give you an approximate estimate.
