Anyone having a Reception in a Brewery or Brewpub?

Punkin Beer, on March 6, 2016 at 9:44 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

So we are not interested in a hotel or ballroom style wedding, and wanted something more fun and more us. One idea we had was doing a Reception/sit down Dinner after the ceremony in a Brewpub or Brewery's attached Restaurant in the Hudson Valley area (north of NYC). We love beer, we love the Fall, New York is beautiful and it sounds like a potentially good fit.

Has anyone done something similar? Any pros, cons or recommendations?

Love them. I think it sounds great, especially in the fall.

It sounds great! We thought about it but our favorite brew pub is downtown and we were worried about parking.

That sounds like the wedding of the year.

We are bringing the brewery to us with a variety of local craft beer at the reception.

We thought about doing this, since we both love our local breweries! Sadly, the couple we looked at either weren't equipped to handle a reception, or were too small to host all of our guests. But if you can find one that works for you, I say go for it!

This sounds like an awesome reception! I would love to be a guest at a wedding with a reception at a brewery.

Ours is at a hotel, but they make their own beer, wine, and some booze!

We're doing our reception at a pub and hiring a Dj, our total guest count is 35 so it's pretty small. Only paying for a champagne toast and sodas only. Open bar can be crazy expensive.

Anyone else think it's odd to have a reception at a *pub* and not do open bar....?

One of my friends is having her wedding at one in San Diego later this year, and I've never been more excited to attend a wedding.

A friend of mine had her reception at a local brewery! Her reception was very non traditional- no dances, toasts, cake cutting, etc. but that was her choice. She could've done all that and it would've worked perfectly!

I'm in Atlanta and despite a really growing craft brewing industry GA has awful laws for the brewing industry. Some of this may not apply in NY but

    - you may not be able to have liquor (if that's not important to you, no biggie)

    - the brewery may still have to work off drink tickets (hers had to go with the 6 drink tickets/person they normally use when open)

I thought about it but most won't allow children, and having my nieces and nephews is super important for me.

I am lucky enough to live in a small brewery mecca, and had several to choose from. I am in Tampa, FL and we have a favorite brewery in Ybor City that has a second floor space for events.

    The pluses:

-It has a very industrial modern look and murals painted on the walls so that we don't need to decorate.

-We will get amazing beer super cheap (I mean, super super super cheap- so we will have an open bar).

-It was the lowest price venue out of anywhere we looked into (under $1000 for 4 hours on a Saturday night and it includes a bartender, cleaning, and PA system and projector if we want to have pictures scrolling).

-And it makes it easy to say no kids because everyone has to be 18+ (this is a plus for me, but not some people).

-Our guests are super excited, because its not a typical wedding (especially because 5 of his cousins married in the last year and a half and everyone is kind of 'wedding-ed' out.)

    Down sides:

-It is small, only accommodates 80 people if doing a seated meal- 125 if its cocktail style standing room.

-No DJ permitted because the first floor is open for general public and they don't want an annoying DJ killing the brewery vibe (this doesn't bother me in the least, but for most it will be an issue). **We are permitted to use the PA for an intro and exit song during the ceremony and the officiant will be mic'd- during the reception portion they will have the music playing downstairs be playing upstairs, which is a mix of 80's- current pop/rock that we are perfectly fine with.

-No liquor, only beer and wine.

-They don't have enough seating/tables so I am having to rent them and have them brought in.

-No getting ready space, or bridal room- so I'm going to have to show up ready to go.

We looked at many venues and really had to sit down and decide what a perfect party looked like for us. Throw out the 'wedding' stigma and ask what we wanted. If you want a 'wedding' that looks like a 'wedding' a brewery might not be for you. If you want a party that you can add a ceremony and some wedding type events too, then it might be a great option.
