Anyone have a mix of bridesmaid sleeve length?

SHINY OBJECTS, on February 2, 2017 at 2:25 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18

For my bridesmaid dresses I told them any short black dress of their choosing. I didn't specify sleeve length, but I asked for final approval. 2 of the 6 have come back with long sleeves and the others have come back sleeveless or strapless. I'm probably going to ok it because matching is less important to me than them being comfortable and hopefully not having to spend much money, but I'm just curious if any of y'all had bridesmaids with both sleeves and no sleeves, and how it looked? Pictures would be much appreciated, I haven't found much through googling. I'm not a matchy-matchy person, but I'm a visual person, and need to see things before I can wrap my head around something.

I also want to add that after some great advice from y'all, their shoes will not match-I told them anything metallic, so some have gold and some have silver, and I'm not requiring special hair, mu, nails, or jewelry, so it's not like I have a lot of consistency elsewhere, either. Pretty much the only thing that will match for them is the shawls I am giving them for the ceremony and their bouquets. eta: typo

I wouldnt worry about it. I see it as kinda just like having different necklines.

Kinda? We have a one shoulder strap and two shoulders cap sleeves... I don't think it will look bad though. Honestly, I'd enjoy seeing your pics for their variety!

I'm making a really weird face in this picture, but this was my friend's wedding in November! We all wore the same color dress from the same designer, but different necklines and kind of different sleeves!

Hmm I'm having some strapless, some tan, some spaghetti, some peasant sleeves. But none are longer than the elbow. I wouldn't cause a fuss over this, but I do think it might not look as good tbh.

My girls will have diff tops and necklines on their dresses. They ordered from eshakti.com which allowed them to get the same dress but customize for their size and style. I like that every girl will have a different look.

I think when you get the same dress but different cuts, it still looks cohesive, like at least it's from the same collection. My concern is the dresses are already totally different. I tried to keep them all matte fabrics (no sequins or lace) but still...I don't mind mis matched, I just don't want it to look like I picked a bunch of randos from the crowd.

@island-what do you mean by tan (like are they different colors?) and what are peasant sleeves?

I don't know about the long sleeves next to the strapless. I let my girls pick to an extent - same color, length, and material, but each choose her own top - but they all had either two shoulder straps or a one-shoulder.

@SHINY epic fail. I mean tanks* I'm not even sure how to explain peasant sleeves, but if you look up "short peasant sleeve," they'll come up. It's like tight elastic around the bicep and then a big poof over the shoulder.

I think you should specify sleeves but now that they all have their dresses you may need to let it slide.

@island-oh, I know what you're talking about. I always think of it as the really big flowy things like from the 70's. But short sleeve and sleeveless I think go fine together.

@jillian-well one of them it was just something in her closet, so she put it on and asked if it was ok before shopping. I hate saying no, but I just haven't answered her yet, thus the post-I'm trying to decide. The other one bought 2 dresses because she couldn't decide and one is sleeveless and the other is 3/4, but I think she's leaning to the longer sleeve

Oh then easy fix since nothing is totally set. Just tell the truth--after thinking about different sleeve lengths, for pictures I'd prefer if you all wear something shorter than (and say whichever length you truly don't want.)

My SIL's wedding we had a total mix - from long sleeve (I wore a shrug over mine) to sleeveless. We all picked an apple red style from DB - some were floor length and some were shorter. It looks just fine and reflects the style and personality of the bridesmaid instead of the bride, which I feel looks nicer than 100% identical. I've done both as a bridesmaid and I'm always more comfortable when the styles are varied. I feel like identical outfits can emphasize the physical differences in the bridesmaids, i.e. my arms are way larger and flabbier than hers and this dress flatters her waist and widens mine. In dresses of their choosing, even if you pick the color, each one looks their best and can feel confident which is where they get that shine and glow!

For pictures you can have the 2 with sleeves on the ends or closest to you to make it symmetrical. I think it will look fine

I don't think it matters. I have 4 BMs - two strapless, one sleeveless, and one halter.

Ok now I'm on a roll! I've only found examples with long black dresses, but I think short dresses will look great as well!

Omg @wwlynnie these are perfect and just what I've been looking for. I thought I was decent, but you are a far superior googler!

Thanks everyone for the great advice!
