Anyone have a diamond/ring from James Allen?

WorthTheWait, on June 7, 2017 at 12:03 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

We went ring shopping recently, and fiancé did the smart thing by bringing me with him! We are basically picking it out together. We have looked at a lot of places, and we are now looking at some online vendors. One of them is James Allen. The setting I want (custom) is gorgeous and not cheap! I just want to make sure it is high quality. It's tough when you can't actually see it! Most reviews are very good, but there are some bad ones, which has me scared. Anyone out there have a ring from JA? I would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

My husband got my engagement ring online from James Allen! I love it!! He was super impressed with their customer service and how securely it was sent and the quality of the ring. I know he said he got a better ring there than he could've gotten at the same price point at stores he was looking at!

The only issues I've had with it are ones anyone would have - I got it resized smaller and had two of the tiny side diamonds fall out and had to have them replaced, the way the center stone is set it was difficult to find a band that sat well with it, etc.

Everything Dani said! I haven't had any issues with my ring so far but I also haven't gotten it sized or anything. My ring is gorgeous and very high quality. We took it to a local jeweler when I was thinking about having it resized and even they commented on the quality of the ring! FH had a wonderful experience with James Allen and highly recommends them!

That's good to know as I will never use Kay Jewelers or any of their related companies.

My FH purchased my ring through James Allen. He said they had great customer service and he was able to get a better quality diamond there. He also returned two rings prior to deciding on my final ring with them.

My SIL has a ring from James Allen. It's excellent quality and they are a good value seller for diamonds. The diamond will be as high quality as its ratings suggest. I'd be sure to take full advantage of the videos / photos of the stone before you buy, since some of the middle clarity rating diamonds CAN actually have visible inclusions, if you're not careful (this is true for all providers, just harder to tell when you buy online than in person). But overall I'd definitely recommend them.

My ring is from Brilliant Earth which is also an excellent option-- very high quality and has the added benefit of being eco-friendly in terms of how they mine their stones, etc.

Yes, I love James Allen. For my engagement ring, my fiancee bought the diamond there (setting was purchased separately). At first we were going to look for diamonds on Blue Nile bc they have a big selection but we honestly didn't know what we'd end up getting just by the specs. He ended up randomly found James Allen where we were amazed that they actually provided images of each diamond posted. The diamond arrived in a timely manner in nice packaging and I couldn't be more happier with their quality of service!

The reviews I have seen from James Allen customers have all been phenomenal. There are so many ways to see finished engagement ring photos and video on their website to really take the mystery out of the engagement ring buying process. Here's a great outline of the many ways to use the James Allen website to get as much info as you need on ring styles and pricing. (and even proposal tips!)

Yes! All of our rings are from James Allen. My wedding set and his wedding ring. I love my ring. Like most women I have looked at rings online and always thought I wanted a Verragio ring. Jeff picked out my e-ring(diamond was purchased separately from the setting at James Allen) and wedding band on his own. It's beautiful and the most sparkly diamond I have ever seen. Jeff being an engineer really did his research based on quality of diamond and cost vs what is available at a retail store. He said that what he purchased would have had a much higher price tag . I honestly don't even think most jewelry stores carry the quality of diamond he purchased. I know for his ring they sure don't! He wanted diamonds as well and most rings we looked at had very low ratings with a very high price tag. James Allen also offers free resizing just FYI. You do have to return it to have it done but I'd rather do that then have someone else touch it! I love our rings and can't image any others, they are perfect for us!! I get compliments on my ring all the time!

As far as online vendors go, my FH got my ring through Brilliant Earth and had a great experience. I will say that our local jeweler was surprised at the quality of my ring (it's vintage) from an online site. It seemed as though she'd seen a lot of fakes walk through the door from online vendors. Not sure how helpful this is, but thought I'd mention it, especially since you were exited about how affordable the ring was....

Yes! My first e ring was from James Allen and it was amazing. I got an awesome quality diamond way less than I would've paid in a regular store. I will always recommend them! In understand being scared ordering online, we were so we actually happened to live close enough to their office James himself let us come look at the diamonds. Great guy, great jewelry!

PSA! Now is a great time to buy. They are having 25% off settings and other jewelry. Read my own review of James Allen here:

    Do NOT recommend James Allen.
My husband had purchased my engagement ring from James Allen back in 2015 (round solitaire in a pave band, platinum, value $8k+). After just 6 months of wear, and I have a desk job, the band turned oval. Thought it was a one time deal, sent it to them for repair and to size .5 smaller thinking it was the sizing that was causing it. After finally getting my ring back, another 6 months later, it went oval again but this time I just lived with it. A couple years later, I lost pave diamonds off the band but used a local jeweler to fix it. Now 8 years later, the band has completely split at the bottom and I can no longer wear it. I took it to my local jeweler to hopefully repair it and they said when James Allen fixed it the first time and resized it they overheated the metal so badly there were a ton of air bubbles which related to weakening the band even further. They have to cut out the section that Jame Allen worked on and put in new platinum in its place. I have accepted at this point my ring will never be good and I will eventually have to get a whole new setting. Wherever James Allen lies in the affordability spectrum it's just simply not worth it for all the repairs I've had, now having to eventually replace the band, and the aggravation. Save yourself the headache.
