Anyone gotten their engagement ring resized?

Summer, on February 14, 2018 at 8:25 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17
I actually got my finger measured when we picked out the ring but they must have done a poor job because my ring is completely loose and he diamond won't stay upright. I'm nervous to get it resized right now, being winter, in case my finger swells up in summer, but soon I won't have time to get it done before the wedding. Any advice for exactly how to know the right fit when they get out the 'sizing rings'? I thought the size I had would fit perfectly...

I’ve had to have my ring resized twice. The first time it was sized perfectly but then I lost weight and had to get it done again. Truthfully no advice for getting it to be the perfect size, your jeweler should be able to measure it perfectly for you and know what to get. Maybe go somewhere different or have another associate help you. Do you typically have problems with swollen fingers in the summertime? I’ve never had that problem except when I was pregnant..

Yeah I had mine sized twice and luckily it doesn't cost anything so if I need it resized in the summer I'll ship it off and miss it terribly for the 2wks

I had my ring resized in the summer (August) just because I thought the same thing. Right now it is not loose or turning so you should be okay unless your fingers really change with the seasons.

I have had mine resized twice. The first time it was too loose and when I got it back it was too tight. It only took a day to the resize so it wasn't that big of a deal. My fingers swell at night and I hate the look of skin/finger fat going over the side of the ring, so I would rather it be a little looser and have to adjust it a couple times a day.

I have gotten mine resized. The Jeweler who made my ring resized it right then and there while I waited- took all of 15 minutes. If its too big, maybe you can get a filler until the summer to see if it is truly too big or jus because its cold out. There is other ways to keep the ring right side up with out resizing it. Maybe try some of those before sending it out.

You can have sizing beads put in the ring so that it keeps it from spinning. I had an heirloom ring that I always wore on my left hand, because it was a perfect fit. When I got engaged I had it resized for my right hand, but it can feel pretty big in the winter. I'm seriously considering having the beads put in that ring.

Oh I didn't realize it'd be that quick! Maybe I will wait until may or June when we order wedding bands- my wedding is in August. Just didn't want to take any risk of not having it!
my fingers do tend to change drastically with heat and cold. I bought a 'ring noodle' which helps it stay on but it's a bit uncomfortable where the edges poke into my finger, and doesn't actually keep it upright. Unfortunatey I didn't think of this when picking it out, but my ring is very top-heavy with a delicate band.

I don't want to get my ring resized yet for similar reasons - I think it's just loose right now but due to winter and also some health stuff I assume my finger will get fatter later. I got some ring sizers for now that I wrap around the band on the inside and it stays in place. Magical. I was taking my ring off because it was so loose and twirling, but now it stays put and I'm so happy.

I would wait until you have it in the summer and see how your fingers swell - you can also have sizing beads added.
Also see how it fits with a band - mine slides around a little bit with my band it fits perfectly

My fiance bought my ring from Etsy. He specified a 6, they gave him a 9!!! The thing slid on and off my think when he proposed, haha. We got it resized on Christmas Eve (day after he proposed) at Jared's, to a 6.5. They sized me and it was painless. I'm glad I have the extra 0.5 because even though it's a bit loose right now, I know I'll swell in the summer.

I would get a ring guard or those sizing beads until summer, and then resize when it's warmer and you can tell how much you'll swell.

Once upon a time I worked for Tiffany & Co, where all engagement rings come in a size 6 and are resized after purchase. A ring that stays on your finger without moving up and down the length of the finger should be the right size. With that in mind it shouldn't be too small to get on or off comfortabley, and it shouldn't slide off easily (I have met too many people where it was one size to big, they throw their hands in the air, and never see their ring again.) As for the stone moving side to side, that is fairly normal. If it falls to the side the moment you put it on, it is probably too big, but if it sticks, then you notice after an hour that it has moved to the side, that is pretty normal.

When you wake up in the morning you may find your ring feels a little tighter, same with eating a lot of salty food, warm weather, excess alcohol, etc. Go talk to your trusted jeweler and they should be able to guide you through the process.

I had to get mine resized.

When I went to the jeweler to get fitted - I was 30lbs lighter than I was when I got engaged and the band on the sizing ring was a lot thinner than the band on my engagement ring. I was barely able to squeeze it on when he proposed and for a few weeks afterwards it was a nightmare trying to get it on and off.

When we went to get it resized - our jeweler cut the ring there and stretched it to size that I had picked based on the ring sizers there. It was ready in a few hours.

I had mine resized when I first got it and it was the summer. It fit very snugly. Now it spins and often the center stone faces my palm. It doesn't bother me enough to resize it though especially because I plan to sauder it to the wedding band which will make it tighter.

I'm kinda in the same situation. Though I can't resize it too much because my knuckle is bigger. I just bought a resizing thing from amazon that is removable. I haven't gotten it yet, but my moms coworker says that they work great. I don't want to get it resized before I have kids because my fingers will probably change then too. Link to the one I got.

I was told that when you add a wedding band it makes it fit better. I'd wait until you have your full set before altering anything.

I had mine resized a couple weeks after he purposed. It took a week and they even cleaned it for me. It also ended up being cheaper than I was quoted so that was nice.

I got my ring resized the week after we got engaged ... and they resized it while I waited- we got it done at the jewlwer who made the ring but I refuse to leave my ring with anyone for the fear of someone taking out my diamond and switching it with a diff one or a cz ( sounds crazy but it’s happened to someone I know ! ) my ring still spins a lot but they said that’s just because of the size of the diamond making it “ top heavy “
