Anyone Getting Married In A Catholic Church??? HELP!

I feel like not many people get married in Church these days. Do any of you know if both the bride and groom need to be confirmed and have their first communion done to be able to get married in Church or is it just required for 1 of them. I heard only 1 needs to have both but I am not sure I know...

@Gina: they ask that it be dated within 6 months because then the records should be current. It's easy, just call the parish where you were baptized and they can send you another copy.

A lot of it depends on the Church and whether or not the priest is all fire and brimstone. Are you still local to the church where you were baptized and confirmed? I'd start by calling them first. They are probably going to start the conversation off with interview like questions, are you both catholic, confirmed, do you live together, do you attend mass, etc. I contacted a Church in our new town that wanted nothing to do with us because we live together. The Church in my hometown which is a town over from where we live now could care less that we live together. We are both confirmed. Good luck!

Gina and Katrina - yup, needs to be a new copy of the baptismal certificate dated within the past six months. We were told to specify that it's for marriage so they prepare it correctly.

I just got my updated one in the mail and it doesn't look like the sample of what one should look like that they showed us. Hoping I don't have to be like "hey you sent the wrong thing", argh.

The canon law is on this stuff is ridiculous

Those who have been baptised Catholic should then be confirmed before they can be married.

If you are marrying someone who is baptised in a different denomination you need a permission from the bishop but usually getting that is no problem at all.

If one is not a baptised christian (of any denomination) is a disparity of cult, to be allowed to marry a special dispensation from the bishop is required and includes proving certain things

My parents were both married in a Catholic Church and my mum wasn't baptised into the faith. Also, my dad has not yet ever been Confirmed either.

My fiance and I are also getting married in a Catholic Church and they don't have a problem with him not being baptised as Catholic either.

I am getting married in the Church and work for the Church as well. Here is a great website that answers all of these sorts of questions: http://www.foryourmarriage.org/catholic-marriage/planning-a-catholic-wedding/
