Anyone ever not reserve a block of hotel rooms?

Just curious if this is a thing some people skip, or if it's considered necessary.

I won't be. There are 7 people from out of town that I am inviting, and 5 of them would be able to stay with their family if they choose to attend. I don't feel I need to reserve a block for 3 people.

Were renting a vacation home that will sleep up to 26 people (13 beds, most of our guests are couples). If people want to share it with us, they are more than welcome to, and we'll split the cost between everyone. If they don't want to, there are tons of other rental properties, and hotels in the area.

The town I'm getting married in will not allow us to block any rooms off anywhere. The majority of them also have a two night minimum. It's a nightmare. Unfortunately, I can't do much about it! You can only do what you can do.

OK ladies I have another question, I found a hotel that doesn't hold us financially responsible if rooms are unused, so I wanted to go ahead and book rooms with them. However, they're asking for a credit card number to keep on file. Each guest will be paying individually, and I don't want my credit card on file with the hotel in fear that I will be charged for something. Is this normal?

That’s kind of how I’m feeling at this point, it’s taking up so much of my time just asking if they can do a courtesy block without charging us something

About 85-90% of my guests will need a hotel stay so we will get a block at a local hotel.

    its courteous to do so.

Im having a tinyyy wedding, and most of our guests live in the same state as us. Our wedding is for the day, so if guests choose to stay longer, then thats on them.

I skipped it. Even with everyone needing rooms - including ourselves. Many had points they could use at places and the discount wasn't that great - plus we had to guarantee a minimum. So, we passed and no one has complained.

My opinion is that I wouldn't bother. That's just me. But every SINGLE person disregarded my hotel block. People just didn't even try or care, but it might be different for others. My wedding is on FL so there are SO many hotels to pick from, so maybe that's why people shrugged mine off.

Our wedding is in San Antonio TX, it's a major city with tons of hotels. I really don't feel like doing it, BUT our wedding is January 2, 2021. It's right after New Years, so I worry a lot of hotels may be booked. There's also a big college football game on New Years Eve.
