Anyone else wear their e ring on their right hand?!

Heather, on July 28, 2017 at 7:06 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14

Long story short....

I had a freak accident years ago and tore off my finger on my left hand, therefore I am unable to wear my engagement ring on that finger.

I wanted to know if anyone else here has to wear theirs on their right hand? Looking for some advice!

To be blunt, some people are extremely rude about this. People are excited for my engagement but it turns quickly as soon as they see my rings on the wrong hand

"Ummmm you know you are wearing it on the wrong finger....right?!" Almost in a snotty tone.

OBVIOUSLY I know that lol. But then I have to tell people why, then they fee like crap and apologize and then it's super awkward.

My DENTIST even commented on it.

So therefore, anyone have any recommendations for these awkward encounters? Lol

Also, I want to find a ring that I would be able to wear on my left hand but needs to be adjustable. Any suggestions on that as well?

That's the thing Heather, I don't act awkward at all. I just say "oh I had an accident as a kid and cannot wear it on my left hand"

Then they say "oh my gosh I am so sorry for saying that"

There are lots of cultures that wear their wedding rings on their right hands, so I don't see why wearing an engagement ring on your right hand would be a big deal.

Many other parts of the world wear wedding rings on the right hand. No big deal.

Yeah, this is definitely not on you to solve! Like Heather said, it's rude that they're even saying anything.

I second the silicone rings! You can get a pack of 8 for like $5 on Amazon and pick your color. I've been wearing mine for a little over a month now and it started out fitted, maybe a little tight, but now it's perfect. Nice and stretched out lol

Wow, people are rude! You're handling it well, but yikes.

As far as an adjustable ring, definitely silicone. I love my Enso (they make metallic versions in rose gold, copper, and other colors)

Tell people to shove it. Just brush it off. If you want to try some clear adjusters maybe that would help

Hahaha it's so ironic that I just wrote this because after this post, I went into a work meeting with new clients and after the meeting the guy says "so I just have to ask...are you German? Is that why your ring is on your right hand?"

    Hahaha some people....

I try to laugh and brush it off and honestly it doesn't bother me a ton but sometimes after awhile it starts to irk me!

And thank you for all the ring suggestions!

I don't even know why people would comment on it. At least you have a good attitude about it! Sorry I don't really have any advice except to just keep doing you.

People need to mind their business and not comment at all but that would be too like right. Sorry it is happening.

Ugh people do suck sometimes! My ering was too big so I wore it on my left hand on my middle finger until I got it sized (it was either that or not wear it). I had a couple people comment about wrong finger.

I'm with telling people to shove it lol or if I could I would wear it on my left hand middle finger so when they saw your ring it would be obvious why you wear it on that finger

    Don't worry about it.

I had heard that it is to be worn on the finger that is closest to your heart. That is why the left hand and the middle finger is customary in many cultures too because that is thought closest to your heart.

People are idiots. There's some BS going around how the ring finger on the left hand supposedly has a vein that runs directly to the heart....um, no. It doesn't. I'm a mortician. I would know.

At least you have the opportunity to make them feel awkward after they find out their mistake!

In Arabic culture its standard to wear an Ering on the right hand and transfer to left after marriage.

Being said- you owe no explanation to anyone about what you do- or do not wear anywhere on your body.

(I pretty much stopped wearing my rings at this point- my hands swell so much at night- and I can't wear them on my job sites- so I mostly don't wear them)
