Anyone else not a fan of "rustic" weddings?

Morgan, on December 7, 2018 at 2:44 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 37

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and tastes and everyone's wedding is beautiful no matter what they do, but I personally believe "rustic" weddings are entirely overdone at this point. I'm not a fan of the style-- I would never knock anyone that is, but its gotten to a point where I go to try to find decorations, signs, and little odds and ends for my wedding, and almost EVERYTHING is rustic.

Anyone else over seeing all things rustic or barn? Or am I alone in this? lol

I am so so with you. It was okay the first few years, but I swear every wedding I've been to practically since 2012 has been covered in burlap and mason jars Smiley atonished I'm just so over it.

    ME! I hate this trend!
One of my neighbors put up a burlap and lace wreath years ago and i said pretty, potential wedding idea. And then it exploded. I’m not a rustic person anyway so even if it hadn’t exploded i still wouldn’t have done it, but I do fidn it pretty in small doses.

I've never been much of a fan of the rustic style! It has definitely gotten to the point where every time I go to the Facebook marketplace or somewhere similar to find secondhand wedding stuff the majority of it is rustic and that's like the complete opposite of what I'm going for!

I cant stand burlap even before the rustic wedding scene broke out. I think it can be used tastefully but whew....I'd rather not see it.

I like the rustic style but a very TINY sprinkle of it while being incorporated into a different theme.

It took me ages to find decorations that wasn’t rustic, Hobby Lobby especially because it’s like the only style they seem to carry.

SAME! Not my tastes at all regardless if it's trendy or not. If I see another mason jar I think I'll scream

Same for me!! It's so frustrating. There's this cute little wedding consignment store not far from me, but almost everything in there is rustic, and not at all what my vibe is, which is more of a regal, classic elegance.

I've been to so many barn weddings that when someone suggested one as a venue to us I immediately shut it down. Rustic weddings can be so totally beautiful and unique to each couple, especially when it represents their style! But I agree, it's not easy finding wedding signs and little decor items that aren't rustic these days. I've had a lot of luck on Etsy for non-rustic decor!

Omg!! Same!! It’s driving me nuts trying to look for ideas on Pinterest because the ideas are either rustic or elegant but WAY to expensive! I do think rustic weddings are seriously overdone!!

But like you said, Definitely nothing against people who can pull it off! There’s a lot of rustic weddings on here that I think are beautiful, just not my cup of tea.

Agree! I didn't really have a "theme" for my wedding, but I definitely didn't want rustic! Elegant & ethereal were the 2 words I used to describe it.

When I was chatting with the florist, I wasn't really sure what kind of flowers I wanted (well, peonies, but they were out of season) but I told her I better not see a sunflower, daisy or even a hint of babies breath or burlap. No yellow, no orange, no royal blue. No mason jars. Basically anything that even leaned towards country or rustic was not even to be considered.

It was frustrating. All of the signs you see are rustic. Can't someone do something cute on acrylic? On a mirror? Instead I had to pay outrageous prices to get what I wanted hand done by artists. I swear, in a couple years I will be able to find exactly what I wanted in every store. Happens to me all the time. SO frustrating!

Etsy was a huge help for me as well.

ME! OH MY GOODNESS ME! If I saw one more "suggested item" that had burlap & lace I was going to VOMIT. Ha. To each their own, but NO THANKS for this girl! We went full "city glam" and it was everything we ever wanted lol

This!!! It’s not a bad style, I just don’t understand why it’s SO overdone. Our ceremony is in a ballroom but our reception is probably going to be in the room where our venue holds wine tastings, so the room itself has a bit of a “rustic” feel but....... there will be no burlap or mason jars anywhere in sight lol, and by no means will it be a rustic “theme.”

My close family friend is getting married a few months after us (he is a guy, and his FW is doing like 99% of the planning, he’s kinda just along for the ride lol) and he recently told me they’re doing a rustic theme in a barn and then he kinda just rolled his eyes hahaha. I was like nooooo don’t do it 😂

I'm personally not a fan of it either, but funny enough, I ended up with some of it by accident. Our venue was a bit rustic looking and was called "the farmhouse" and my MIL had a lot of mason jars that she offered up to my husband and he accepted. He didn't find out until the week before the wedding how much I hate mason jars. I just went with it because it was nice of her to offer and it went with the venue and at the end of the day, what my flowers sat in didn't really matter to me.

Thankfully, no one suggested burlap. I would have drawn the line there lol

I love rustic. Reminds me of helping my cousins on the farm. However, I hate this 'pop' version of rustic. It feels like a movie production and polished version of rustic...

The first thing I told my wedding planner was it needs to be formal and no rustic or boho!

Me too!! We've been searching for (and haven't been able to find) the very plain vases my sister used for centerpieces in her wedding. My mom said well, if you have to buy something, at least it could be something useful like Mason jars. I about bit her head off when I snapped, NO!, No mason jars at my wedding! She actually looked a little scared for a second lol

All I'm going to say is that burlap is a horrible fabric. I worked at a JoAnn Fabrics for a while at the beginning of the decade. The burlap and lace thing was well entrenched in wedding world already. Anytime someone wanted a cut of it we played rock paper scissors. Well anyone who only developed a mild rash or runny nose would play. The others who developed hives and/or needed a break afterwards to use an inhaler obvious didn't cut it. We would have to finish anyone else first and then wash the cutting table afterwards. It's just so messy and just terrible. It has it's place as feed bags just not parties.

    Same girl!
It seems like the only type of wedding to have where I live is “rustic glam” or something like that 😂
