Anyone else having a piñata?

StarJammer, on February 17, 2018 at 2:52 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 13
We’re kind of a weird, aging hipster couple and have both been married before but had crappy weddings and crappier marriages. Live and learn, right?

So, this time around we want to have a really fun, awesome wedding with all the light-hearted silliness and good times we can. We have a small budget but big, crazy ideas. One of them is a piñata, either shaped like a wedding cake or a giant flower. We’re going to fill it with candy, tiny plastic liquor bottles, little bottles of stuff from the dollar store, little Dollar Tree toys our friends will find amusing, scented votive candles and cute faux flowers tied with ribbon (since I’m not doing a bouquet toss).

Anyone else going to have or thinking of having a piñata at their wedding?

Pinatas feel like a birthday thing. And really it might just take one strong hit from an adult to break open.

Seems like loads of fun! I'd love it if you just filled the entire thing with the mini plastic liquor bottles honestly lol.

I say no .. I have 3 kids and had piniatas at birthday party's . . Once the kids give it a go fh eventually steps in and hits it for the kids .. and opens it pretty easly . Also as an adult I wouldn't care on the ground to retrieve any of that..

Wouldn’t the candles break when they hit the floor?

I think this sounds soooo fun!

Particularly shaped like a wedding cake or flower, it’s wedding-y and fun.

I do have to ageee with OG Gretchen, be careful putting edible & non edible things in together.

Literally not one person said anything about you appropriating Mexican culture. It sounds
like you’re just looking to stir the pot with that comment. No I did not have a piñata because we are not children.

I did see a similar idea where people write little messages to put in the pinata and then you break it open on your first anniversary. I thought it was cute but eventually found another idea that worked similar message ideas in with table numbers and abandoned that.

So I saw the email with your response to me which had been deleted .. I'm sorry you didint like my comment.. but I don't feel like I said anything to offend you or rude just honest opinion.. that 1 adult could easly open a pinata .. and 2 as a guest I would want to crawl on the floor in dress and heels like a child . .. I can tell your really going to love this forum as it has many opinionated women and men.

I am doing a pinata, my wedding guest would get a kick out of it (especially the guys). We are doing that instead of the garter toss. Before anyone says something about culture blah blah blah. It is our culture and we are not offended that a couple of any race or age or whatever would want to use one at their wedding. It's not insensitive, didnt know our culture owned the rights to such things. If that were the case where's our royalty checks?
A pinata is a way to bring joy and if thats what its being used for, I see no harm. Plus no one is going to make anyone participate if they dont want to. So heels and dresses, or dress shoes and coats will be fine. LIVE, LOVE & LAUGH
