Anyone else having a non-traditional wedding??

Shamika, on February 18, 2020 at 10:30 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 12

My fiance and I are trying to have a wedding under $7,000 and we have decided we want it to be pretty non-traditional and relaxed. I'm trying to plan some things out in terms of how the reception will go and fun things to do outside of dancing, while also trying to stay in the budget. I am not having the best luck with my brain and fiance is no help. Any ideas??? The venue is outdoors on 17 acres of land in South Lake Tahoe, if that helps.

My husband and I got married at our church and had our reception at a local Fire House. They Fire house was absolutely amazing! It came with all the linens, Chairs, Utensils, Plates, Napkin colors of my choice and also came with a chef and coordinator. All we had to do is decorate a little. It was perfect for us and also very affordable, We actually came in under budget

Yea. Games people can play or other things they can do besides dancing. I personally don't like going to weddings cuz the only things to do is dance or talk to people. I don't like dancing and I'm not super social in person.

We are having a brunch wedding. Early in the day everything is cheaper, food, venues, a lot less alcohol. You done even need a band or Dj. We are just doing a play list. We are getting married in Fells Point in Baltimore & it just happens to be during The Fells Point festival so the wedding ends at 3:00 & everyone who is staying in Baltimore will hit the festival!
    Good luck with planning!

I plan to be on the dance floor as much as possible, but I like the idea of some random other activities, too. We are bringing in several corn holes to our indoor ballroom, lol! I think the board game table is a great idea, may have to steal that one!

I am doing something similar, although it's in the middle of a downtown area, indoors with an attached patio. We are trying to stay on a super tight budget so I am not hiring a single vendor other than the venue (provides catering and tables/chairs/etc). I have no DJ, and thus, no dance floor. My fiancés job is to create a playlist and we'll bring our two Sonos Move speakers to cover the whole area. I am going to have several little cute "games" to occupy people located in different areas around the venue rooms, including things like mad libs about the bride and groom, help create our bucket list, etc. I also have a scavenger hunt that we'll bring out after dinner and dessert, for whomever wants to play. I didn't have to create it, as the venue is really whimsical and unique and already had one created, but I think it's a cool idea for a laidback non-traditional wedding. If I were you, I'd also get some cornhole boards and perhaps some outdoor games.

You can rent wedding bouncy castles. I don't know your crowd, but I could see mine getting a kick out of it. I know our DJ offered karaoke (we were NOT interested) but some people love it. Photo booths are really common. You could also get someone to do caricatures. Basically whatever you're interested in can be incorporated into your wedding.

You’re welcome!! One of the venues we looked at wanted $3000 for the evening (6-10pm) and $2000 for the afternoon (1-4pm) it makes a pretty big difference in price if you’re budget is tight. We are just having mimosas at ours because it’s a brunch & we have bought them by the bottle from the venue. We are only having about 40 people though so it’s easier to gauge how much to get. And you can always get more, you will just have a bill after!

We aren’t having a completely traditional wedding either. We are only having 22 people (this started out as just an elopement and was only supposed to be 6 other people but that’s a long story) we will have the venue, plated dinner open bar etc but a nice short 4 hour event. You may want to get a karaoke machine and set it up for people to do something different.

Yea I did a game table for me because I had a lot of kids there and groups of friends and just felt like it would make sense to have the option there since it’s inexpensive you can get a bunch of different games at dollar tree for instance
