Anyone Else Get Engaged While Angry?

Mandi, on January 13, 2020 at 10:49 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 6
We had a weekend full of wedding stuff. And a date for the bridal shower has been set! [One year to the day after he proposed.]

Last night we were reflecting on our engagement and the vacation we took 3 weeks before. And how when we got home from vacation, he knew he wanted to propose, and I was considering breaking up with him. [He told me he considered proposing but decided against it, and I had to spend my last 4 hours at Disney World trying not to cry.] And I spent the next few weeks being mean to him and pushing him away. He got so mad that he rage bought my engagement ring.
And we got engaged while being SO MAD at each other.
It was just funny to talk about the fact that no matter what disagreements we've had while wedding planning and home buying, we've never been more mad at one another than the 3 weeks between vacation and the proposal.
Anybody else's significant other stage buy their engagement ring? Lol.

My husband had proposed to his ex on a whim after dating me for a year. It was incredibly devastating. So when we eventually worked it out and things were going well, I expected a ring pretty soon. I mean you could propose to that horrible girl but not to me when I’ve always been good to you? I had a lot of nights crying bc I thought he was going to propose. Then he told me he’d do it on a trip and didn’t. And I was about to move across the country with him which i told him I was uncomfortable doing unless we were engaged or married. I was planning to break up with him in two more months and he gave me the ring the day after we got home from the trip. It kind of sucked but we’re really happily married now we just didn’t have that good story.

I don’t know if this classifies as mad but I was super Hangry all night before the proposal. We had plans to go to Hibachi so I didn’t eat much all day because I knew I was gonna pig out on dinner lol. I kept saying: why can’t we go earlier to dinner and was super moody. After dinner, when we were driving to the unexpected proposal spot, I kept thinking: wow what if I get engaged tonight... I’ve been super hangry all day and mean lol my mood totally changed after we got engaged!

I was. He and I were at a bar the night before for a friends birthday and he had drank way too much (this is not a regular thing lol) and was being rather embarrassing. I was pretty annoyed. He proposed the next afternoon. I think he had too many drinks due to the nerves of the proposal.

We'd been together for 8.5 years when we got engaged. He had been telling me for like 2 years that a proposal was "coming soon". I was like absolutely crazy about getting married.

So we planned a vacation in Nashville for June 2018. I started planning this a year in advance. 4 of our friends were coming on this trip with us. I figured this would be the perfect time to get engaged.

Apparently he told our friends like 6 months before that he was DEFINITELY going to propose on this trip.

Well like 4 days before we left he randomly asked me "so how high are your ring expectations?" and I was like "not high" and then I like turned my head around 360 degrees like the exorcist and I said "YOU DON'T HAVE A &%$#% RING YET?! WE LEAVE FOR NASHVILLE IN 4 DAYS! YOU COULD'VE PROPOSED ON THIS TRIP!" I mean I went OFF. And he was basically like "my bad, poor planning on my part. I really thought I had more time and this snuck up on me so I guess we won't be getting engaged in Nashville."

WELL we did end up getting engaged in Nashville. And afterwards I was like "WOW I feel like a huge B, you had the ring the whole time right?"

And he was like "no I actually didn't whoops haha. I procrastinated this even though I've known for over 6 months that I was proposing on this trip. Good thing you got so mad, I felt so bad I went out the next day and bought a ring. That's why it's not in your ring size. I didn't have enough time to size it before the trip."

I still laugh about it. I feel bad I was so crazy but also LOL wth is wrong with him he "forgot" to buy a ring?! hahaha. Anyway, it worked out!
