Anyone else doing/have done a Sparkler exit?

FutureMrsG, on October 7, 2017 at 2:24 AM Posted in Planning 0 17

I am trying to decide where, what size, and how many sparklers to get for a sparkler exit. There's so many choices. What's everyone else using? I saw the idea on Pinterest and loved it! The pics look amazing. Does anyone have any experience with doing a sparkler exit? Pros and Cons???

We got ours from wedding sparkler outlet. we tested them out and they work exactly as advertised. We got super long 36 inch 3.5 min long ones that are probably not neccessary. I went to one wedding where they redid the sparkler exit for the photographer but we did not get enough to do it twice.

Make sure to check with the venue to see if they will allow sparklers.

Do you have a DOC that will be in charge of passing out the sparklers, collecting the used ones and making sure that it's done safely? I've seen pictures and they always look amazing. But I know someone who was seriously injured during a sparkler exit at a wedding.

@MDEasternShoreBride thanks for the input. I was considering the 36in ones. My fear is that the photographer won't get the shots I want so I was thinking I would need the longer ones. Maybe the mid length???

@NicoleH yes my venue allows it and I do have a DOC. I had the same concerns. There will be small children there.

Yeah, we're in the same boat with 180 coming. The longer ones are almost like swords so if you have a lot of kids, go with mid size but buy extra. If you think they can handle it or are older kids, go long.

I was one of the ones that loved sparklers until I had an experience in a wedding.

Everyone was just so close to each other that the sparks started going everywhere and burnt my dress- new dress that I just removed the tags that day. Thank God the dress had like a cover below and it didn't burnt my skin!!

Now I hate sparklers.. Smiley smile

Yikes @havanachic was there someone there to direct the guests? Sorry you almost got burned. Maybe I should do half sparklers for the pics and bubbles for those that don't want to take a chance?

We always have three people assigned to a sparkler exit. Our doormen will place a bucket full of sand at the end of walkway to dispose of the sparklers. We also light them, and they have to be under 24 inches. In all of my years seeing and doing them I have not seen anyone be injured. I did get burned a couple months ago when a BM knocked my arm when I was lighting one....(we use a small blow torch type thing) and I got burned on my ring finger. I wanted to scream lots of swear words. They do make for beautiful photos.

When I was meeting with different DOC they told me to get the middle size because the short ones don't last and the long ones don't light well. I was also thinking about adding those cute tags but they said not to because you'll take to take them off before they can light them.

I participated in one and only one.

My asthmatic sister had to start walking, since anything burning triggers an attack. She ended up about 4 blocks away.

We had to drive back to the hotel with our car windows down.

I had to put my dress in a double plastic bag, to put in my suitcase to take home to be dry cleaned.

Since I shared a room with my sister, I had to get a shower and wash my hair immediately.

The next wedding I went to that had one (luckily few have had them), I reused to participate. Due to wildfires, a cul de sac's worth of homes had burnt down just a few miles from the venue, the previous week. So why?, just why?

P.S. My sister's friend bought them for her daughter's wedding. Afterward she said "What was I thinking? A bunch of drunks running around with fire."

@alexadra L make sure to post pro pics! Can’t wait to see them! I love pictures and I’m sure that they will turn out amazing. So now I just need to decide the length. I am really leaning towards the longer ones. I’m wondering if those that had problems had the longer ones or shorter ones. I have read reviews on some of the 36 inch that state they weren’t difficult to light. Too many choices!

This opinion is probably unpopular, but I think they only work well with a small number of guests, and older guests. As in you probably shouldn't have more than 25 people left at your exit with sparklers. 100 sparklers sounds like a ton of fire and smoke and people probably too crowded next to each other to be safe. They look beautiful, but for a small crowd not a large one.
