Anyone else doing their own makeup?

Natashamarie08, on December 1, 2019 at 9:53 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 15
I am having a hard time deciding on whether to hire a MUA or not. I think I do my own make up pretty well and don’t think I would mind doing it myself on my wedding day. Catch is I would have to help two of my bridesmaids, my mom, and my niece with most of not all of their makeup. Right now I feel like I wouldn’t mind. What else am I going to do while other girls are having their hair done? But I just don’t want to decide not to hire a MUA and day of regret my decision. Anyone else decide to do their makeup for themselves? Or have any advice?

My advice is hire someone. I love makeup and have a good amount of quality products. With that being said there are days I try to do my regular routine for something important and I can’t get anything to go right! To save you some stress have someone else do it. It’s the most important day of your life and you want to look flawless! Do some trials with MUA and find the right person who enhances your beauty or go full glam!

Anyone else doing their own makeup? 1Anyone else doing their own makeup? 2 The tip picture of me in the Friends shirt is me doing my own hair and makeup. I do a full face pretty much every day and consider myself pretty good at it. The second picture of me in the turtle next is me with my hair and makeup trial done by a MUA. While you would save money, the professional trial I got done photographed so well and honestly felt amazing to be pampered. I would get it done. Smiley smile

I recommend taking the stress off yourself. Plus, the makeup a professional does should be darker than your every day makeup due to the lighting professional photographers use.

I would recommend hiring a MUA. Everyday makeup photographs very differently than professional makeup. And airbrush makeup lasts much longer. This is the day you want to look flawless and not worry about having a bad makeup day (which seems to always happen when you have the pressure of looking good for an event)

Anyone else doing their own makeup? 3Anyone else doing their own makeup? 4 I did my own makeup and didn’t regret it! It took me like 30 mins (would’ve been 20 if my hand wasn’t shaking and I wasn’t distracted by talking to my bridesmaids lol). One of my bridesmaids helped the other girls with their makeup so I was just focused on my own.

I did my own, as did my BP. But all of us had at least for a time in the past been in jobs where evening wear and formal dressy hairstyles were an everyday requirement. So not something new. But I have also been in many other ( most) where only the bride, or not even the bride, had pro makeup. And many, particularly with shorter hair, just did that themselves or with a friend, or other BM . Which we did. The advantage was that we did all our own grooming, from shower to hair to makeup, and dressed. Each in our own Inn or home bed and bath. For us, that meant all 5 of us in under 1.5 hours. It means not having to wait to take turns. So only a small part of the day is getting ready. We spent all morning and the early afternoon with our SO or family, or doing things on the Inn grounds or in the nearby town. It is a much less stressful day than all together for hours. But if you do your own, each needs to do a trial run, practice, take a picture of what you like. So on the day, it is a familiar routine. In this area, rural NH, only those who marry at resorts easily schedule HMUA to go to the wedding site. Most go to a local salon, or a salon in a tourist hotel or ski area that is a year round resort. More people do their own , not the recent celebrity style, pro makeup, and a whole entourage getting ready. Just traditional, getting yourself ready at home if local people
Or each in their own rooms. I hate when a bride want people a getting ready together. Since I do my own I opt out if possible. I like peace and privacy while grooming.

I am most likely doing my own because I am eloping out of state or possibly the country based on what we decide and I do not want to put my hands in the care of someone I have not done a trial with plus I am sure I will do a good job. Maybe I will freak out last minute and pay someone ha ha pending the price but what I am doing is I am going to a professional and she is going to do a tutorial with me where she does half my face and I do the other half. If I like it then I hope I learn some good tips and then I can do that look a few times often to keep in practice. If I like the look I think I would rather save the money and while yes you will be busy the day of I do not consider putting on make up a huge stressor. I would say do not put the stress on you to do someone else's make up. Have them figure it out on their own meaning either they do their own or pay someone. Last time I was a bridesmaid the bride did not hire someone, she left it to us to do our own or go somewhere to have it professionally done. You have to think if you or they want to pay about $65+ for someone to do their make up. You could always ask what they prefer but do not make it your job to do their make up...it is one thing to do your own but do not stress about others. They can figure out how to get themselves ready. Worse case if there is a sephora or mac nearby they can go there. Smiley smile Let us know what you decide.

I would suggest hiring some one. It’s your day to be pampered and not stressing. Good luck with your decision which ever one you choose

Your suggestion to go to someone, to teach you, is a good one. I still bless my auntie for what I then thought was a silly gift. She paid a hair stylist to show me how to style my hair didderent ways, 3 about 2 hour sessions. For my sweet sixteen birthday. The next year, she paid a MUA to show me day and evening looks. Ever since, at school, work, traveling, and for interviews, I have had great confidence in doing my own hair and MU and knowing it looks great. When I lived abroad twice, and when I was in the army, hair up always,
( Medical) I was one of very few who could pull it off and never look like I dressed from a suitcase or duffle bag. Get yourself a few good lessons, it is a wedding gift to yourself that lasts.

My MOH/Sister is very good. We discused that she will do my make up.
    I have a small wedding party - MOH & 3 BM's.
One of them is a 16 year old teen who doesnt wear make up. The most she will put on is masacara.
So we are skipping MUA but will hire hairstylist.

That is what I was thinking. I could apply it to daily life and learn some tips. If I were staying local and had a chance to check someone else out then I would not I do not have that time for a destination elopement and I do not want to take a chance on not liking how I look ha ha. The hair I may have to take a shot because I am not that expert.

Thank you everyone for the advice. I think I will talk it over with my BP and see how everyone feels. I am leaning towards no MUA and only a hairstylist. I feel with practice and youtube (how I learned makeup in the first place) I can create my desired look.
