Anyone else buying a used wedding dress?

So, I went dress shopping with my mom and sister and after a terrible experience at David's Bridal (I left red hot and crying) we stopped at a lovely little boutique and had a great time. BUT my mother insisted that I try on whatever I wanted and I fell in love with a dress that is out of my budget....

So, I went dress shopping with my mom and sister and after a terrible experience at David's Bridal (I left red hot and crying) we stopped at a lovely little boutique and had a great time. BUT my mother insisted that I try on whatever I wanted and I fell in love with a dress that is out of my budget. After looking online I found the dress used for half the price. It even has the bustle and the neckline altered to a sweetheart like I wanted, so the only alteration I should have to pay for is the length.

Anyway! I guess I need some reassurance that I am doing the right thing by buying it used. Has anyone else purchased a used gown? Any issues? Was it exactly what you wanted?

My first wedding gown was custom made for me at Priscilla's in Boston. Two of my friends wore it after me. Buy that dress!! Who cares if it was worn for 6 hours.

I know someone that did in 99 because at that point all the dresses were about being plain. other then maybe lace trim, bling and wow on a dress was no where in sight.

so she went to a consignment shop, and snagged a over 2000 dollar designer gown that was covered in heavy lace beading and crystals for about 400. her's was already bustled too.

    it took everyone's breath away!

just be careful with what site you use to make sure you don't get taken. other than that, I say bravo and get that dress of your dreams! do you have any pictures you can post?

I bought my dress from a consignment store. I love it and I got a great deal. It was worn once, but is in great condition. The store I bought it from even had it professionally cleaned after I bought it.

I am a little conflicted on this too....I'm getting my dress from DB and it is $650 new, but when I was looking on their website I saw the "sample sale" dresses and they have mine on there for over half the price. I'm not sure what I want to do. Only wearing it one day and that money could go towards something else. But I am not sure about the overall quality of the sample dress I might get

Didn't someone fall in love with a dress and then find the same one at goodwill?

I have been looking at ebay, tradesy and preownedweddingdresses. I think it's a smart purchase to get a dress you know you like online at a savings!

I tried dresses on in the store first, just as you did. Then I started my hunt online. I know my measurements and I was able to find a brand new, never worn, AKA "used" "preowned" dress at 75% off on tradesy. I say go for it. It makes money sense and you can shuffle the saved money elsewhere.
