Anyone doing cupcakes?

on September 1, 2019 at 12:01 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 11
So my venue is making us pay a $2.50 cake cutting fee per person if we use a bakery other than the awful one that they want us to use. I asked if we could do a cupcake display, and if there would be a fee. I was told that there would be no fee! So my plan is to do a small cake for my fiancé and I to cut and then a cupcake display, as cupcakes are cheaper than cake AND I don’t have to pay a crazy fee!!

Is is anyone else doing this? Any good pictures for inspiration? Did people grab the cupcakes, or were many left untouched?

We are planning on doing this. We are having an 8 inch cake for him and I to cut then cupcakes for our guests. I have been to weddings were this went over very well. Our wedding is in 6 days. Best of luck

This is exactly what we’re doing. The last wedding I was in, probably 80% of the cake was left over. I think cupcakes are easier to grab and go or even eat while on the dance floor. We also plan to provide small boxes for those who would prefer to take one home. The first photo is how we’re displaying ours. I’m personally not a fan of the tiered look, but if you want something that looks more like a traditional cake, the second photo would be a great option for you.

That is exactly what we’re doing!!
An amazing friend of ours works in a bakery and is gifting us our wedding cake (and cupcakes)!! Our catering company wanted to charge an extra $1.75 person for cake cutting if we used someone outside their preferred bakery. But, our dear friend told us it would be SO much easier for her to do one small cake and cupcakes than a big cake, and I’m all for it!!!

I'd just clarify who will be responsible for setting up the cupcake display. Daughter's venue was awesome and included tons of things, but they were very clear that they would not set up any kind of dessert display (besides providing a cake/dessert table and linens). Daughter had a conventional wedding cake and the bakery delivery person was responsible for placing the cake on the table. If she'd done any kind of additional dessert display, the vendor or DOC or someone else would have to set it up. Depending on how many cupcakes you're talking about, just think through the logistics of getting them all set up the way you want -- it's likely more time consuming than you think. (Still likely much better than the cake cutting fee, but you might need to plan for it.)

I initially wanted to do cupcakes from Nothing Bundt Cakes however I went to a good friends wedding last month and she had them. So I’ve change to desserts.

We are doing this. It is not only less expensive and easier to get cake to our guests, but we will have 4 different flavors for our guests to choose from, something for everyone. Here are some inspo ideas.

Our cake will look like this with green and blue

Anyone doing cupcakes? 5We're not doing the nautical theme, but the stand is similar to ours. We will also have our flavors labeled like the picture.

We are doing an 8” cake on top for cutting & then we are doing cupcakes for everyone. We are doing tier with burlap ribbon laced w/ real flowers that match the wedding throughout the stand.

Yep definitely doing cupcakes instead. Cheaper and better variety. Unsure exactly how our baker will display (not very important to us).
