Anyone do M&Ms as favors?

Nicole, on June 12, 2011 at 10:53 AM Posted in Planning 0 8

So my FH and I are thinking about doing the customized M&Ms as wedding favors. Our problem is that we aren't sure how much we would need. It looks like we will be having about 180 guests, and I plan on putting them in little candy jars. Has anyone given M&Ms and could give guidance on how big of a bag or how many bags you ordered? It looks like they are sold in 5 pound bags.

I plan on doing them, but I'm not putting them in little candy jars. I'm about to PM you.

I filled a shot glass, but I just used the store bought ones from Costco... we had black shot glasses and a "Dark Side of the Moon" theme.... so I filled each with one color and had them set out in rainbow order around the tables Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue.

I had around the same amount of people as you, and I think I just did 2 big bags of the peanut M&M's. from costco. The custom ones are cute, but IMO, that can be a lot of money for something that is going to be eaten.

23 - 25 regular M&M's fit in a shot glass.... there is around 545 M&M's in a pound - so around 22 shot glasses per lb of the small ones. So 5 lbs should do around 100 servings.... buy 2 bags - 10 lbs.

(this is why I just bought the peanut ones, I got to buy less... I know, some might have peanut allergies, but everyone knows what a peanut m&m looks like, so they would know not to eat them)

It was suggested that I use bulkcandy.com. Has anyone used this site?

I am using them also...I bought a reg bag at the store and filled as many favors as I could. For me it filled only 2..A bag is about 1.5 oz...so I need .75 oz per favor...

We're going to do this! We're putting them in little glass jars and took a normal large sized bag of m&ms from the store to figure out how many we'll need. (Just kept filling up our sample jar.) They have the ounces on the bag so you can just see how many ounces you'll need that way.

Total number of jars, divided by the amount you were able to fill up with the bag from the store, multiplied by the ounces in the bag... I think that should get you there

They're pretty expensive so we're planning on supplementing the customized ones with the m&ms by color

I calculated 15 pounds for 200 favors. I will be wrapping them on those round tulles and placing them in a small basket. I will get a 5 pound personalized bag from M&M. Com end will buy 10 pounds at my local grocery which is cheaper.

Yes, it seems that getting the personalized M&Ms will be pushing the budget, so after checking out bulkecandy.com, I found 10 pound bags for $87. Our colors are navy blue and raspberry. Also, we found some cute 3 oz. canister jars that we can decorate with stickers from vistaprint and coordinating ribbon.
