Anyone do a "familymoon" instead for those who have kids already?

Tina, on August 22, 2019 at 12:21 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 16
My FH and I are older and have combined three boys aged 12, 14 and 16. I have never been financially able to give my boys a vacation outside of our state and they have never ever complained and have loved every staycation we have done. But happily I will be coming into some money and told my boys that I will take them on an amazing trip next year, actually outside of our state! I was thinking Disney World and all that area. Of course my FH and my step son are included too (my step son is special needs so may decide it's too much for him to go,it's up to him). Looking into trips to Disney I never realised how expensive it actually is! And if we are doing this trip it isn't financially sound to do a honeymoon too. So I wondered if anyone did their honeymoon as a family. And if you enjoyed it or regretted not having that romantic getaway?

Were actually planning a familymoon for next year (wedding is this October to Disney world! Our boys are much younger (5 and 2), but I would never be able to justify going on an awesome vacation without them!

Are you going to stay at one of the resorts?

Most definitely! That’s part of the fun! My kids love lightning McQueen, so I’m hoping FH will be ok with something like the art of animation resort, where they have themes rooms. I may be more excited than the kids. I’m a huge Disney fan, and though we’ve been to Disneyland a few times in recent years, my kids have never been to Disney world and I haven’t been since I was 8 or 9.

That's the one I'm looking at too! It looks like the nicest of the "affordable" resorts. While my kids are older and I think will definitely be more into the star wars and Harry Potter experiences, they will still think it's fun to stay there. I'm lucky to have very open minded kiddos. I'm also looking at spending a day at Discovery cove to have that dolphin experience! I'm trying to see this trip as once in a lifetime

Thank you! I think my FH and I will have chances in the future to do our own thing too.

That sounds great! If you feel like you will miss the alone time, you can always take a smaller "stay-cation" for just you and the husband a few weeks after your Disney trip Smiley smile

We are thinking of doing a familymoon as well. Our wedding date is literally the first weekend after school starts so its not a good time to be away from home. We are hoping to squeeze in a vacation during one of the breaks from school. Our boys are 12 and 10 and our baby boy is 14 months old. Before the baby was born we went on a babymoon and brought the older boys. We stayed in a suite so that we had separate bedrooms and common living space (just like at home) so we were able to relax and be alone as well. It worked out nicely. Also, your boys are older than mine so it might be easier for you two to sneak off and have a dinner out and leave them in the hotel with pizza and movies or something for a few hours.

We are doing ours in a couple of years, our kids are 3 and 1. We want them to remember the trip if we do our "familymoon" at disney land or disney world.

Nope… Doing a honeymoon with only FH and I (I have no kids but I’m gaining a 10yr daughter who lives with us 50% of the week). We do a lot of vacations throughout the year, and some of those are family getaways. But after the wedding it’s just FH and I for some newlywed adult time.

I personally would want a honeymoon with just me and my fiance I think it would be more romantic that way and who knows when you two would get to go away again alone as a couple with no children.

We actually are not doing anything at all after the wedding, other than me trying to find a new job that will enable us to get better cars before the harsh West MI winter. We also just bought a house and have the holidays AND both our birthdays, kind of all in a rush. Once we are settled, we want to do a familymoon, and I think we were also thinking Disney World! I tried to get him to have a DW there. Smiley tongue We have a two year old now, so by the time it actually happens, she'll be the PERFECT age. We've been talking about taking her to Disney since she was born.

ETA: We had also vaguely discussed saving up to the point where we could take our nanny as an au pair, so we could also get "honeymoon alone time" some of the time as well. Who knows? We have other things to sort out first... but that is another option that's more of a happy medium, if you can do it.
