Anyone DIY'ing A Petal Aisle Runner??

GoneAndMarried, on October 24, 2014 at 10:03 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 17

I reeeally want to do this. We are being in married in a very plain outdoor space and I love this idea to make it a little nicer. Has anyone done this? How did you accomplish it? Did you buy the petals the color you wanted, or did you dye white petals with RIT? What did you use for glue? How many petals do you think you used? How many hours did this take you? About how much did the whole project cost?

Bump.. I definitely want to do this. I've heard it takes a good 40 hours to complete and can be done for cheap. It would be nice to get someone's first hand experience Smiley smile

I would order your petals from here, you can choose your colors. The petals are very large but do take a while to get here. www.dhgate.com/product/mic-4000pcs-artificial-silk-rose-petals-wedding/1...

bu you have a year before your wedding, just do a little here and there and it will be less stressful

I thought about making one or even having one but read to be careful that you don't trip over the petals when you walk down the aisle.

I ordered my runner and had every intention to do it on my own, in the end I paid someone to just make the borders for me, very cheap on etsy, she did an amazing job . Her name is April https://www.etsy.com/shop/CraftyIDOs?ref=l2-shopheader-name it saved me HOURS AND HOURS where I could be doing other things.

Bought the runner separately , I totally messed up on the ink color on our wedding date, it is way to light, my bad, but don't care as of today lol

OMG @Miss2Mrs that looks gorgeous!! I never thought about having the outline instead of the full runner. I'm not creative either so I probably wouldnt be able to make it lol!

I did see that you can buy these on Etsy for about $200. But with like $15 on an aisle runner, and like $50 on petals and $12 for a slip resistant runner for under the aisle I just can't justify it. I can def do this over several weekend. I am most curious about the type of glue used.

I love petal aisle runners. I like the idea of having it on the sides, like Miss to Mrs has shown. As much as i love to craft, this does not look like a project i would enjoy, so i'm not sure i want to tackle this project.

There's also some already made on ebay....

Link is not working.. but they range from $50 to $150

I am doing one on each side of the aisle. I used white and silver. I got my petals on ebay really inexpensive. measure your aisle. Here is an estimator I used http://www.petalgarden.com/petalcalc.htm.

I'm 80% done with mine. It is 28ft long. I bought the cheapest muslin cloth from Joann's fabrics for $9. Make use of those coupons and try to catch the 60% off coupons.

I bought my petals from ebay. $3.58 for 1000 petals. My colors are ivory, pink, fuschia. I made an ombre aisle.

Here's how I did it: I hot glued the petals, one by one, onto the cloth. It is 100% secured and will not fall out. I've tested it. However, what I don't like about it is how 'orderly' the petals look. So, with the extra petals on hand, I bought spray adhesive, spray on top of the 'orderly' petals and scramble my extra petals on to create a tossed effect. It is working out very well. The only thing is that you'll have to run your hands through the scrambled petals to pick out petals which did not stuck down well. I had no issues going over spots which I think could need more petals with the petals which did not initially get stuck on.

The first picture shows the completed tossed effect of fuschia and pink. The second picture, on the bottom, you'll see that the ivory has a very 'orderly' look. I haven't gotten to it yet.

    Total petals use: 10,000.

I'm a little late in this conversation but I am also doing a floral ombre aisle runner similar to the attached so hopefully I don't need 10k petals. So far I ordered 4k but I just started today.

Okay...here I thought my DIY stuff was done and we would just have my neohew throw flowers..but these look so amazing! I didn't even know they were a "thing"! So cool.
I don't have any idea how long the aisle will be though and I wouldn't want it to be too short/too long..hmmm

I' seriously debating it...mostly I love the swirl ones that would lile the aisel and the swirls would go with my theme, just not sure I'm good enough to make those on my own...things to debate. I have 2 months to get it done in if I do it myself lol

Hi! I was too worried about my bridesmaids or myself tripping, slipping, or getting a heel stuck in the aisle runner, so instead I ordered an aisle runner border from Etsy. The maker worked with us and made it custom to match my colors and made it just the right length. It came out to $80-$90. It was very pretty, the pic doesn’t do it justice.

No pressure. Just a thought. 😄
