FH and I have been thinking of where we would like to go for our honeymoon and we already decided on these 3 places. Our #1 pick is Italy #2 Greece, and if we are way to tight with money we will do #3 Jamaica which is the cheapest of all. I would like some advice.

1. Italy- Is it better to buy a vacation package like a tour or to go on your own? What is the best way to get around from city to city? How long should we spend in each city in a way where we can see all of the major attractions? We would like to go to Rome, Florence, Venice, and Pisa. If you went where did you book your flights, or hotel? How much did you spend or took with you to spend?

2. If you have been to Greece where did you stay or recommend staying? How much did you take to spend? How long was your stay and where did you book your flight and hotel? Also did you do a vacation package?

3. For Jamaica where did you stay? Where did you book your hotel or flight? How long where you there for?

We spent a total of two weeks in Italy and spent around $50 a day each on food (that was the per diem we were given, and we stuck to it for the most part). That comes out to maybe 40 Euros, which is definitely do-able.

In retrospect, traveling to that many cities was exhausting. If I were to go back, I'd spend 3-4 days in Venice, 3-4 days in Verona, and 3-4 days in Florence. Many other places can easily be day trips. I'd do a day trip from Florence to Rome. Rome has become so touristy that I didn't enjoy it as much my second time. Message me if you want my travel details! I love planning travel excursions.

Ok I was able to look up most of the info for you. We went at the beginning of May in 2006. I honestly don't remember one day of rain. The hotel we stayed at in Athens was Cecil hotel: http://www.cecilhotel.gr/ definitely nothing fancy. We only were at the hotel for breakfast and sleeping so we didn't need much. It's in the middle of Athens and you can actually see the Acropolis from some of the rooms as well as the rooftop. Hope this info helps!

@FutureMrsLaguna we booked everything in December I believe, and we're leaving in June for the honeymoon.

The 4K was total for both of us, not each. I got the name wrong earlier, but this is the website with more info:

www.avantidestinations.com. It's a travel agent website but you can still kind of poke around. The one we are looking at has some things included like dinner, day tour, beach day, etc. The hotels are all included in that. We wanted some things included, but flexibility and free days to choose what we are doing.

ETA: That price was also based on deluxe hotels, so it can go up or down based on the type of hotel you choose.

I've been to Italy and Jamaica.

Italy is fantastic - one of my favorite places. I am not the biggest Venice fan though. It's really touristy and awesome for only the first 1-2 days. Verona is one of my favorites by far. They have an "arena" which is a mini colosseum like in Rome. People are way nicer. I go for work and fly into vencie. I think Verona was a 2-3 hour drive from there but you can always take a train pretty easily. There are little towns in between. I worked in one called Castelfranco and it's so quaint and cute! The city is inside a castle and it even has a little moat all the way around!! How cool is that?!?! Book your hotels through venere.com - it's very reliable and offers fantastic reviews.

Let me know if you want more information - I could go on forever - I've been there many times Smiley smile

@Blissful Did you book a package with flight and hotel or everything separately? How many days did you spend in Italy?

@SandyM Thank you so much I will look into it. Did you book everything separately? Also is it expensive to travel from Athens to one of the islands like Santorini?

@LSC I will definitely check it out. Thanks so much!

Sure thing! It also includes transportation (flights or a ferry ride) between all the islands which is hard to find. Good luck!

Honestly our Santorini trip was booked when we got there. We just went to a local travel office and bought ferry tickets through them. It was super easy and relatively cheap from what I remember. We did book everything separately because we were cheap and both just out of college.

It was mentioned in a post on page 1, but if you end up going to Italy, definitely spend at least a couple of days in Tuscany (San Gimigiano or Siena or Radda). Get a break from the bigger cities and relax. There is SO much to do in Florence, Rome and Venice, that some down time just eating, drinking wine and relaxing might be nice. Pisa is cool, but just stop for a day or a few hours and go see the Tower and the adjacent Duomo. No idea if they still have them, since it was way back in 2000 when I was there, but there were storage lockers in the train station to stash your luggage while you grab a bus or taxi over to the Leaning Tower and back.

@oldfashionedbride Thank you that is what I was thinking to get at least one day to relax. I think I might do a day trip to Pisa just to see the tower. Thanks for the advice

I can't remember the exact hotel we stayed at in Radda (or nearby), but there was a nearby pottery shop that had lovely things! Rampini Ceramics, you can Google it. And we stayed here: http://www.rosshotels.it/eng/hotel-ultimo-mulino-siena/index.html

Like I said, it's been a while, but I loved it there!
