Anyone been to Iceland in the Fall?

Yvonne, on November 22, 2020 at 5:55 PM Posted in Honeymoon 1 13

We want to stay at the Blue Lagoon Iceland Resort. Then take off to Paris and London and Spain maybe. We plan on doing it in 2 weeks.

All of those places would be amazing, but I would seriously consider narrowing it down to two at the absolute most! I've never been to Iceland, but you could easily fill an entire week each in Paris and London alone. And Spain has sooo much to offer; spending only a few days there would be a shame! Spending more time in one or two of the places on your list will probably be more relaxing and you'll be able to dive deeper into each one 😊. Traveling is exhausting, and I've found that slowing down and spending more time in fewer places is more rewarding and I end up remembering the details of those trips better. But in the end it's up to you of course, and what your ideal trip is!

I am surprised they are open. Iceland is very different from the US, and from Scandinavia, though that is where mist other tourists you meet will be from. The volcanoes and hot springs or geothermal pools seem bizarre in winter, and it is already winter there, snow, near 30 degrees. I do not know that spa, but it sounds like one of many where you can walk in your bathing suit on a walkway with snow on either side, to a spa or pool for bathing, with mist above the bathwater warm springs. If you are adventurous you can take a snowmobile out to one of the recently active volcanoes. Can't spell the names, but there were active ones ****.
In Reykjavik, the capitol, there is a volcano museum if you are interested. By the first week in December, I would guess about 18 hours dark each night, and just before lunch and afternoon are daytime.
The Northern Lights ( Aurora Borealis ) are not active every night, but are wonderful if you have never seen them. There are only 125-150,000 people in the country, generally very sociable, though Covid will change that. Even the capitol is small enough that you can see the northern lights, not too much light from the city. It is usually a nice place to visit. Anyone been to Iceland in the Fall? 1
    Enjoy

You right! We wanted to drive around France and visit the Switz Alps too. Everyone keeps saying France will be ideal because it's around Fall so its offseason. I think we'll stick to those 2 places.

We are going next October 2021. Hopefully, they'll be open. It's a world-famous spa. https://www.bluelagoon.com/accommodation/retreat-hotel

Next October, I missed that. Snow starts in October, but it is sweater weather days. And nights will be about 14 hours. They believe in very leisurely evening meals when out, and spas are great. Very relaxing start. France and Spain, so much to see, and I would do France , or Spain, not both. France has many climate ranges, and all are at their best in early fall. Save Spain for another trip. Or spend a few days on Majorca or Corsica

Not exactly, but I’ve been to Iceland in February and loved it. My fiancé and I wanted to see it in winter! The Blue Lagoon is lovely and worth doing, but a bit touristy. Not sure what it will look like then with business etc. but we did the second level of ticket to skip some of the wait and it was worth it. However, our favorite part of the trip was going to a natural hot spring outside Akuyeri in the northern part of the country. I can’t say enough about getting to see some of the wilder parts of Iceland.

We want to stay there. They have an awesome (expensive) suite with a balcony over the water you can dive right in. They also do hiking tours and other adventures. Do you have any recommendations? Or any other advice for visiting? My friend said it's expensive in Iceland period.

Iceland/Paris was what we were thinking for our honeymoon, but everything is on hold until the pandemic is done for. I wouldn't plan anything for next fall just yet.

We went to Iceland a few years ago in the fall for 4 days and it was amazing! If you want to see the northern lights I’d def book the first night because tours will be cancelled and rescheduled based on the weather.

Blue Lagoon was a nice spot along with other places Iceland has to offer.
If you want feel free to message me your email. I can email you our itinerary with the companies with booked with.

We did a glacier tour on what they call a Super Jeep that was excellent which left from Reykjavik, it’s a long day if you join a group tour but worth it. The Lava Tunnel is also close to the Blue Lagoon and can be done in a couple of hours - very cool experience. The food and drinks in Iceland are extremely expensive so plan for that if you go - even the casual eateries and cafes will be much more expensive than you’d think. One of our favorite dining experiences was a local food and beer pairing at a brewery in Reykjavik called Bryggjan Brugghus. We bought tickets ahead of time and they seated us family style with other travelers so it was a fun way to make some quick friends on our first night in Iceland. Overall we loved it and I would go back, but it’s pricey!

My fiancé and I went on a trip to London, Paris, and Iceland a couple summers ago! It was the best trip of our lives for sure. But Iceland was VERY cold in august (low 50s and insanely windy since it’s pretty much just an island) — it was the most beautiful place we’ve ever seen, but I would think it would be too cold to go in the fall. We went to the blue lagoon and it was amazing, but again, I’m not sure if it would be too cold to be enjoyable in the fall. Also Iceland is EXTREMELY expensive, so you want to enjoy all your time there!
