Anyone add straps to a dress? Cost?

Danielle, on August 13, 2015 at 7:23 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

Yesterday one of you ladies posted a dress and I love the straps. My dress is similar but strapless, I am close to 6 weeks away and not even sure the seamstress can pull it off.

I had cap sleeves put on mine and it was ridiculously cheap. What kind of straps?

I want straps too but finding a dress with straps has been hard! Janeen, do you have a pictures of the cap sleeves you added?

Yeah, straps are cheap. It might be a bit more expensive if you're matching lace to lace though.

Yes, I was going to go through with it, even bought the material through Casablanca to make sure the fabric matched the fabric in my dress (very important because you don't want it discolored from your dress - I ordered straight through Casablanca) - the fabric is organza like my dress. I was going to have off the shoulder straps (sleeves if you want to call them that?) added. And the cool thing about it is they sew little buttons on so you can have the option of wearing them for maybe the ceremony and taking them off for the reception ... the fabric cost me $40 and the alterations woman at my bridal shop where I purchased the dress was going to charge me $150. I took my dress out of there and am bringing it to the woman who has altered my clothing for the past 15 years. She said $150 was high and she wouldn't charge that much. Well, now that I've lost a lot of weight from a liquid diet from dental surgery this past month, I am second guessing the sleeves/straps ... because I am looking pretty good strapless, haha. It can totally be done, however like someone mentioned getting the right lace to match your dress might be a challenge. I would contact the dress company and see if you can order some fabric for it to be altered. Good Luck!

Thanks, Janeen! Those are exactly what I want but consultants kept looking at me like I was crazy when I said that.

Btw: I wasn't around for your BAM, but you look stunning!

Thanks! My straps were, no joke, like $20. I just got some satin tulle that matched the underlay of my dress and it was easy.

I personally don't like how strapless looks on me because I'm so tall. I need something to break up my wide shoulders.

I doubt I have any time to order the lace fabric from Maggie Sottero, as it is I am 6 weeks out and still waiting on my bridesmaids dresses that were supposed to be in early July. Better off not having another thing to stress about.

I added straps to my strapless dress. They were semi off the shoulder, not quite but they had to be pleated kind of back and forth. For that and the bottom hem I believe my alterations cost about $300. Dress was under $1K with tax.

My dress was also Casablanca like RhnCasi and they ordered the material from them. But the boutique had to finish them up. I went back for several fittings just to work on the straps but in the end they came out great. Mine were not detachable.

I'm having straps added to mine. They are sheer with some sparkle on the edge and about 4 inches wide. They are adding folds to them so they are thinner and less matronly looking. I am paying $39 for the straps and labor at DB.

One of the girls I know who just got married had straps so she could put them on after the ceremony.

I'm having straps added. We're using the same thing that I'm using for my sash for my straps. Except that I'm using two rows for the straps so it will kind of look like cap sleeves. I've attached what I got. I ordered it from EBay

Hi Nicola, they were ok except they kept getting caught in my veil so make sure you get something that is smooth
