Anybody else considering a second job?

My fiance is considering taking a second job over the summer to cover our honeymoon - which we've already got covered, as long as we don't go way over budget. My fiance is considering taking a second job over the summer to cover our honeymoon - which we've already got covered, as long as we don't go way over budget. I've already picked up extra work I can do from home, but he's talking about taking a couple night shifts on top of an already-tiring day job. I'm concerned that the runup to the wedding will be stressful enough without him working and tired all the time. Anybody else doing this? Did it have a negative effect on your relationship?

We both have 2nd jobs, but mine gives me more hours. However, FH's full time job usually offers OT during the week whereas mine rarely does. It has not put any strain on us at all, but I think that it helps that both our 2nd jobs and FH's full time job are all close to home and none of our jobs require us to work late nights.

We are both debating this. We have enough money to book a small honeymoon, but we would love to do something a bit more luxurious. I have taken on a few students to tutor and will likely continue to do that. Some other jobs we are considering are serving tables, part time reception, census, flyer delivery or newspaper route.

I think it's a great idea, especially since you're really talking about a finite period of time. I've been an entrepreneur for some 30 years, but even now, I typically work 15 hours a day. Just used to it I guess.

Little extra money? Mystery shop (volition.com is a great site to find companies and forums), cater-waitering (the season is coming up, and it's far easier than restaurant waitering....)

I wish I could but I'm in school full time and my FH has to take care of his mother after work so we just don't have any extra time to work another job. We are just saving aggressively, which is working out for us.

My FH works around 50-60 hours regularly because he loves to work. With the money he's been getting from his job we don't need to. But him working an extra shift or two a week doesn't effect our relationship at all.

I am not allowed to take a second job (per my contract at work). I am on salary, so no possibility of overtime. I have been looking for things I can do in my spare time to make extra money - dog walking, tutoring, etc... but not much available in our small town. FH actually works for me (this is not how we met), but business is in its normal post-holidays slump, so he doesn't have any overtime available either. He is considering picking up a second job at a local coffee shop. We're already really pressed for time because of his triathlon training, so I'm not sure how much he'll be able to pick up.

2nd job NO, but yes to overtime. I am salaried, and I picked up a few extra days at work for OT pay. Between that and taking alot of time off without pay for my father's illness it helped me out. I worked PT for nearly a year while he was really sick and took unpaid FMLA for the better part of a month to 6 weeks at the end of his life. I worked a day here and there when he was stable. Every little bit helps.

I am in law school right now and will be taking the bar exam this July but after that I'll probably pick up a second part-time weekend job to roll in some extra cash.

We have been contributing more per pay period to our stock investments. We will cash out prior to the honeymoon.

I actually picked up a part time job also. I work full-time during the week (8-4:30) and picked up a job that gives me some weekend and night time hours. The key is to not over book on the second job. :/ For a while, it was really hard because my part time job was overscheduling me. So I had to scale back. But now it's 2-3 shifts a week for the part time job.

It's been really helping us with the little extra wedding expenses that pop up.
