Any tricks for keeping curls in???

JamieLynn, on May 15, 2009 at 3:39 AM Posted in Planning 0 5

I just had my makeup previews, yes a little late but I did them Smiley smile. Anway, I loved my makeup with both people, but not my hair. I want to wear my hair down because I NEVER wear it up, and honestly can't stand my ears, I know it sounds silly, but its the truth. Anyway, I wanted loss, soft, romantic curls and I just didn't get that with either person. I have long hair and it's thin but I have A LOT of it and I guess it's heavy...so the curly don't want to stay. They also used curling irons and I am not a fan...I can tell it was used by a curling iron because there are slight creases and the curly to me look unnatural. Anyway, I would take it if the curls stayed, but they fall. Just wondering if anyone has any trick or styling products that really hold a curl. I know hair spray...but doesn't work that great. I don't know...I might just have my hair blown out because I KNOW I will love it and it will look like me.

I have some of the sme issues, I have long hair but its thin. I just had a friend do my hair all in curls for a wedding we attended. She blew it totally dry of course,I used a tone of mouse(treseme super hold) and alot of Aqua Net super hold spray. She sprayed every section before she put the iron to it, sprayed it while in the iron, after my whole head was done she ran her fingers ONLY through my hair and used a pick to place curls here and there and then really hit it with the aqua net again. I have to say it stayed all night. I danced, was outside in the wind everything. I have tried to do the curl thing before and it never held, but this time it worked Good Luck. Oh if there are lines where the iron was they arent holding the iron correctly just remind whoever does it NO IRON marks.

I know you dont have a lot of time to try this but see if they will try to wet roll it. My girlfriend had the same issue you are having but she washed her hair that morning, put a bit of product it in and let it air dry. When she got to the salon they misted each section with water and put it in velcro rollers. They put her under the dryer and when all was said and done she had that beautiful loose curl look. We did have to bring hairspray and do the "scrunch and spray" before the reception but the curl came right back with that. I have very thick heavy hair and I think I will have to do the same thing.

    Hello JamieLynn,

I don't know if you have someone who could help you but the way to avoid the crimp from the iron, is you wrap the hair with your hand around the barrel while it is closed..You will need to use a strong hair spray to hold the curl all day. Matrix makes one called Proforma and it would be your finishing spray it is a very strong hold spray. You could use a dry spray on the hair before curling it, on hot rollers or with an iron spray with Proforma then break the curls up with your fingers then spray again. It will last all day.

Hot rollers work well but it depends on how long your hair is. use smaller sections. Good luck and try it and if you need more ideas, we are all here to help. Oh do use a gel after washing, then dry and spray with a dry spray like Redken Quick Dry then curl and spray with strong spray. Dirty hair curls better.

    Congratulations on your wedding day...Karen

Congratulations on your Up coming Wedding : ) A tip that I tell brides and clients is to wash there hair the day before with only shampoo. No conditioner or hairstyling products. Styling product that I love and use is Bead Head Hard head Hair Spray, the curls stay and give your hair a great shine. I hope this help you out Smiley smile
