Any Over 40 Brides Going for a Ball Gown?

I am getting married April 9, 2022. This is my 2nd marriage (but feels like the 1st honestly) & I will be 42. A Google search for what to wear when you’re over 40 yields recommendations for nothing more than “toned down,” “modest,” and “conservative” dresses (none of which I specifically take...
I am getting married April 9, 2022. This is my 2nd marriage (but feels like the 1st honestly) & I will be 42. A Google search for what to wear when you’re over 40 yields recommendations for nothing more than “toned down,” “modest,” and “conservative” dresses (none of which I specifically take issue with). Most of what I’ve come across suggests leaving the “princess dress to the 20 somethings” (which I do take issue with)! I went in for a slinky, subtle, fit and flare & came out with a sparkly, stunning ball gown and I am super excited to wear it! But now I am mildly concerned that it’s not age appropriate.


Now, I know it’s my wedding and I will absolutely wear whatever I want, but I’m curious if there are any other over 40 brides out there that are rocking a ball gown for their weddings.

    Girl, rock what you want. You are going to look awesome! I’m going to be 44 when I get married and I’m rocking a black gown. I know another gal in her 40s who wore a ball gown and it was gorgeous.

    Funny to see this post! I am getting married for the 3rd and final time. I never had a big wedding or anything close and I know i’ve met my person so I am stressed but excited to actually have a wedding of my dream. This is his first! My last!! My dress is a ball gown with blue! My favorite color! ❤️

    I went for a mermaid gown. However I considered a ball gown but felt that I was too curvy and busy for it. I don’t think there is a hard and fast rule. Wear what makes you feel beautiful and your heart sing! Do you have pics?

    Thanks Lisa! I actually just went to my first fitting on Friday & it was incredible the difference when is all pinned to the correct length & the right size! I love it! I definitely don’t have a problem wearing a ball gown, but I couldn’t help noticing the articles that popped up when I was searching for wedding makeup for older brides (I mean, my skin is a little different since I’m older…or maybe I just know what I can’t get away with lol). I was surprised by it & I find it encouraging to hear from brides who don’t feel at all obligated to dress down simply because they are older 😊🙌🏻

    So sad that Ageism affects everything. It’s like you have a small window of time to be young and beautiful and when that window is over it can make you feel as if you are in a box and limited. Screw that and wear what you want! Do you have pics?
