Any other over-50 first-time brides out there?

Kelly, on December 23, 2019 at 11:47 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

Most of the brides I see on this website are in their 20's and 30's. I will be 54 years old on my wedding day, and I've never been married before. I'm thrilled to finally be getting married; I never thought I would. Planning hasn't been all that different. My sister will still be my maid of honor, as I always wanted her to be. My two nieces are going to be my bridesmaids. Whenever I thought about my wedding, the one thing I never wanted was children in my wedding party or at my wedding period. Well, my fiance has a young grandson, and I have a grand-niece, so I'm having a ring bearer and a flower girl. I'm wearing a white dress, which I didn't think I would. The only strange question I've gotten from anyone, and it's not necessarily an "older bride" question, is if I was sad that I wouldn't have a larger wedding party.

Tell me I'm not alone out here!!

Congrats!! Well I’m not yet in my 50’s... but close. I’ll be 45 when I walk down the aisle (FH will be 53). But it’s both of our second marriages. We’re having a no-bridal party and no-kids wedding. But it was by choice. We don’t want kids running around because it’s not that type of environment and I want my best friends to relax and simply enjoy our wedding as a guest.

I was 44 (my 1st), hubby was 56 (his 2nd). Only for a quick minute did I worry if I could still wear a ballgown dress... I did! The best part about being an older bride was truly planning the wedding WE wanted and we skipped a lot of traditions (no wedding party, no father walking me down the aisle, no bouquet/garter toss, no DJ/dancing).

How exciting it’s your turn! What kind of wedding will you be having? What are you most excited about?

I'm also an over 50, first-time bride. Wedding date is fast approaching but I'm so behind in planning! I've no clue what I doing, oh well....

I'm 50 and this my 2nd marriage. I'm wearing a wedding dress and my daughters are my bridesmaids. We are getting married in a really nice park and having our reception at a restaurant. How excited you must be. How is your planning coming along?

Our wedding is going to be very casual. I will be my FH's third wife. He feels he's matured a lot after his 2 previous marriages, and I would have to agree. We met each other at exactly the right time in our lives. No bouquet/garter toss either, but we are having a wedding party - my bridesmaids are my two nieces, and his groomsmen are his two sons. We're having our wedding at a zoo, and there will be a DJ and dancing. I'm most excited about spending the rest of my life with someone who loves me exactly as I am, and hoping to make the rest of his life as wonderful as he's made mine so far!

Slowly but surely. We decided on a venue in May, I bought my dress in July, and we're about to sign our caterer and photographer. We're getting married at the Phoenix Zoo. I see you're getting married next month! Are you all set?

28 days to go. We have all the major planning done. Just working on little things for the wedding. My supervisors husband is making our groomsman cake an wedding cake. We just have to go over final details with him in January. We lived in Arizona in 2017 and most of 2018. Phoenix Zoo is nice. Congrats.

I was 57 and my husband was 62. It was my second wedding but I had eloped the first time when I was 21 so it was my first real wedding! It was a micro wedding but we had much of the traditional stuff. I had a dress and veil; my three adult daughters were bridesmaids; we had a priest and lovely service; all followed by a brunch reception. It was so much fun - all the planning and what not. So glad we had a wedding instead of just going to the county clerk. Enjoy the process!
