Any Filipino Brides out there? Anyone doing Filipino wedding traditions in there ceremony?

I'm not tossing the bouquet or the garter. I'm not even cutting the cake. So I'm kind of Ellington it's more of a party and not really a wedding. Maybe I should incorporate some cultural traditions in our wedding day. What do you think?

@Anne: I wouldn't do it because it will piss off the ppl who were on time and they have to wait. I cannot stand Filipino time myself but what can you do? They are the ones who are missing out. Not you.

No wonder I am late EVERYWHERE. I mean I knew Filipino time is no joke haha-but gosh it makes sense.

@Ashley-thankfully there aren't tons of Filipinos in Iowa. I mostly know tons of other Asian ethnicites here but not many Filipinos and most of my family lives in the Philippines, but from recent events I don't really consider them family anymore (I've never even met them either). So it will just be my mother, my siblings, and my Lola if she's still alive (she's not in the greatest health) or in the states until September. Oh and maybe my uncle.

I am not a huge fan of some Filipino food but LOVE lumpia! Most of it to me is bland but I think it's because my mother grew up really poor and had to make due with what she had.

Not, but my step-dad is. He was born in the Philapeans. I saw the cords tradition at his brother's wedding. His sisters definitely fit the always late mode.

I make a pretty good Americanized Adobo if I say so myself.

My FH was born in the Philippines.. He was married once and did all the church traditions (cord, veil, sponsors, etc) so he didn't want to do them this time around. I wanted to get some type of Filipino dessert to put out but our venue won't allow it. I'm waiting to see if they can get a Filipino beer from their vendors bc I cant think of any other way to incorporate it and his uncles would love it Smiley smile and his mom & aunts will all be wearing those dresses someone posted haha

I officiated a Filipino wedding on short notice (the scheduled officiant was very ill). I was wondering why so many people where standing near the wedding party instead of taking their seats so the ceremony could start. Turned out they were the sponsors and part of the processional.

I'm Philippine Chinese and we are having a traditional Catholic wedding ceremony with the coins, veil for the couple, and lasso. We are not including sponsors though. I am also having a SORT OF Maria Clara style put into the alterations of my dress like this photo.

I went to a wedding last year where the bride was filipino. they did a traditional dance. it could have been nice, except that only one lady knew it, and not even the bride did. they just looked awkward trying to see what the one woman was doing. idn if you are thinking traditional elements to the ceremony or reception, but if you want to do some kind of dance, i would suggest practicing!

My fiance is Filipino and we are doing a couple things traditional. Him & his groomsmen will be wearing a Barong. We are doing the money dance. We are also catering our own wedding and having an American cuisine and Filipino cuisine. I am very excited to bring some of his traditions to the wedding.

@Pamela Anne... I didn't even realize that I chose a dress similar to Maria Clara style obviously more modern, but I think its sweet that I did. Oh... and I too am of Chinese descent.

I am half Filipina/chinese and caucasian. Smiley smile

@WeddingDestinationItaly: Honestly, I didn't know I chose a dress with similarity as well. When I showed my parents what alterations I wanted (ie adding that wrap), they both instantly went, "Oh, it's like a Maria Clara!" lol.

I'm not entirely sure about the proportions of my mix, but my dad has Spanish, Filipino, and Chinese. My mum has Spanish, Chinese, and Russian. I know I'm MOSTLY Chinese (but still mixes of different types of Chinese from around different regions of China).

By the way: I love your dress! That wrap/Maria Clara style, is so perfect on it! Not too overbearing and just the right touch of lace Smiley smile

My grandmother is half Chinese/Filipino her husband was Filipino (not sure if more spanish or what but my grandma had full blood Chinese mother). My dad is white.

You can actually tell that you have a lot of Chinese blood by your avatar. I am always being asked if I am, not many guess Filipino.

Thank you! If that picture you provided is your dress... I love it too. We have the same taste!

@WeddingDestinationItaly: I think I look very Chinese as well, but most people ask me if I'm Filipina! And then when I tell them I'm mostly Chinese, they tell me I'm lying...hahaha...why would I need to lie about that?

Really? I would never guess filipina. I do know one thing for certain... I can spot a filipino accent a mile away, so if I heard you talk then I would know.

Our race is pretty funny when it comes to be Chinese or more Spanish. My mom use to say its looked down as being darker and she use to say the Chinese blood were of higher class and typically wealthy in the Philippines, maybe thats why. She use to say people claim being this and that it was part of the culture. I can't understand why someone question it, because you certainly look more Chinese to me. I could care less. I love that this particular culture is a melting pot. I could have aborigine blood and I still think it cool. I think its comical when you think about it. Any rate... I love finding more brides like me or brides marrying grooms like us!

@WeddingDestinationItaly: Actually, I grew up in British Occupied Hong Kong, so I have a British accent. But I do know what you're talking about, haha!

And when I was a kid, I was SUPER dark! I only got lighter because I ended up moving to England and there wasn't that much sun. But I used to get all these relatives make a face when they saw me and went, "She's so dark!" It wasn't until I grew up that I was like, "Hey, I tan and never burn...I'm genetically superior to all of you!" Lol!

I quite like living in melting pots and I like being one as well. Not sure if you can tell in my profile photo, but I have brown hair...that's my natural hair colour...I don't know where it came from (other than my mother's side of the family), but my dad says it's because I have Russian in me, haha!
