Any February brides out there?

Danielle, on February 1, 2016 at 8:23 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

We're planning for our wedding to be early February of next year but we keep getting nothing but negative comments about the time of year. Everyone we talk to seems sure that a sudden snowstorm will happen on our wedding. A lot of our family is trying to push for us to have a simple summer backyard wedding. We chose February because that's the month we originally got together and winter has always been a special time of year for us. Just not sure I can take much more of the negativity.

We're getting the same song from some people over our January date. When I get upset over people saying things, my fiance always says: "well, less people to feed, more money for your dress."

Seriously, though, people will find a way. You do your thing. It's your wedding, your big day, your life. <3

I'm getting married in 10 days in GA, but my whole family and all of my friends are traveling down from Rhode Island. I have my fingers crossed that they don't have any issues with snow so that they can make it down here.

All in all you just have to do what you want for your day. There will always be people that complain, but in the end they'll make it. If they don't it's their loss anyways.

We're getting married on the 20th. In the beginning we got a few comments (from FMIL and a few older family members) and some were persistent (FMIL) in trying to passive aggressively change the date. We kept the date (because of the 20% off incentive for the month of February - we aren't made of money!) I look at it as if you can make it, awesome, I would love you to be there, but if you can't make it, I'm still marrying FH and that's really all I care about! No imaginary or real snow storm is going to stop me from marrying him when we both want to!

Are you in a snowy or cold climate? We didn't do winter because, well I wanted fall. But if a big snowstorm comes (like the one today!) You could end up with 20 guests but already paid for 150 that RSVP'd yes. People may RSVP yes, but when dangerous weather comes into play, all bets are off who will be able to come.

So yes, some may RSVP no because they just don't want to deal with it, but if a weather issue comes up you may have many last minute cancels you already paid for.

I've gotten the same reactions for January. A few people here have made me feel better about with their past experiences though! Definitely get wedding insurance just in case.

My cousin and her husband just celebrated their 12th anniversary on Feb. 1st. I remember it started snowing at the reception and they actually ended up stranded in the next town's crappy little motel that night on their way to the airport for their honeymoon! Now they laugh about it, but I know for some people that could have ruined their entire day. If it's what you want, go for it and just be as prepared as possible.

We're getting married in a few weeks. Just be mentally prepared for a snowstorm. Maybe you can't leave for your honeymoon, maybe someone's flight gets cancelled and they can't make it.

However, bad weather can strike on any day. I'm sure a summer wedding sounds lovely until a tropical storm hits.

For the person that asked what climate we're in, we live on Long Island so yes it could very well snow! Wedding insurance is definitely something we're getting.

Regardless of when your wedding date is there is always a chance for the weather to take place. If it's summer and your wedding is outside and it rains that day or as in most of the soon to be brides cases it's winter and the chance of a snowstorm. We don't know what the weather may be like when we pick date, all we know is the date is special to us and that's what we go with. Mines in coming up very soon and even though I'm in DE, there is still a chance that we may get hit with a snowstorm on my day. I am praying that it's nothing but sunshine, but just in case it's not I am preparing myself just in case snow does come.

@danielle, don't get discourage because of what others are saying or will say, it's your day and it will be beautiful no matter what.

We are getting married January 15th of 2017 because it was the most affordable month for the venue we chose. Of course I am afraid that a blizzard will occur, but we need to be positive!

When we booked the venue, I was a bit concerned about the weather, but lets face it, it's something we cannot control. People who are getting married in April / May may get rain storms... it's something we just have to be optimistic about. Plus, we will be inside, warm! =) The people that love you and FH will be there and make it regardless of the weather! I live in Northern NJ, and this Winter has been good to us so far. Lets keep our fingers crossed and embrace the beauty in Winter Weddings! =D

PS - look into wedding insurance

I'm having a winter wedding in Minnesota, but my city is pretty amazing about clearing the roads. So it depends where you are. The only person who gave me crap about a winter wedding is my BM who moved to CA a few years ago! Now that we are only 9 days out, I can safely say the weather looks like it will be fine! Cold, but fine.

We're getting married next Saturday. I was originally worried the winter wedding would keep people away, but almost everyone other than our family overseas will be coming. February in New England can be dicey, but we chose to have both the ceremony and reception at a hotel so that people coming from out of town can just arrive and stay put. I'm sure it's not for everyone, but I am excited to be a February bride!

I'm a January bride for next year and I feel the same way !! Everyone keeps saying they hope it doesn't snow and what if it's a blizzard blah blah I live in NY so ya , it's a possibility. I can't focus on that though because I'll just go insane. We picked January because it's what we could afford and it's a Saturday. A Saturday at our venue in the summer was over double the price per head. The church is close to the venue as well to make traveling easier. I think we'll be OK !! Have to think positive!

February 26. Not too worried about snow as it's uncommon in Atlanta but I do worry it will be too cold for an outdoor ceremony which is what we want. I was flexible with the date but our venue had great deals for having a winter wedding so we went for it.
