Our DW was an 8-hour drive (or 1-hour flight), but we changed our original invite list from 40 to 15 due to costs for us and guests. We did host a local reception a few months later. Worked out beautifully.

If your 100 guests aren’t mostly close family, you may have a lot of complaints or declines but realize whomever goes is meant to be there! 🙂

I'm originally from CA and have been living in NV for like 4 years or so. My fiance's family is here and most of mine in CA so we thought we would have it in CA. We've gone through venues here and in CA and we just kept getting disappointed. We did more research and just decided to do a small one in HI on the Big Island. In all honesty, whoever cares enough to make it will be there. Don't let it get to you. I know we're about to make some people feel some type of way but it's something we both want.

Ooo I love Gatlinburg!! What a fun location!!

Most of our guests live in the Northeast (CT, NY, MA, RI...), including us. We're getting married in Orlando. We've heard a few grumbles but not much. My fiance and I are very, very excited! Had we married in CT, we'd have had to send a bunch of obligatory invites to people that we didn't actually want there. Instead, we're having a more intimate wedding (around 50) with the people we really care about and who really care about us!

We are from KY and are getting married in destin FL for immediate family only. We plan to have a reception at home in August so everyone can come. We love gatlingburg and go yearly!

So thats what I am trying to stay around is less than 100. I know that maybe less than 40 will probably be there if that. A lot of people will probably sent gifts if they cannot go.

Same here! I did give everyone a year notice plus I sent out the "Save The Dates" a year in advance and will send out the formal invites somewhere around June- July of this year.
