Any business review stalkers out there?

So I always research at least three different vendors for each item needed (call me compulsive/paranoid/thorough?) and right now I’m on finding a florist. My process is usually to contact businesses through Wedding Wire’s search engine and then message. Those that respond back quickly, have good reviews, and answer my questions are the first for me to research.

Anywho, I have four quotes in front of me and one stands out with his pricing and he even included pictures of what his vision is. His descriptions on what his plans are for our flowers sound very impressive (and really convincing that he knows what he’s doing) and his pricing is almost too good to be true. BUT, when I moved to my next process of checking reviews on other sites, I found NOTHING. Not on yelp or The Knot or Google or even Facebook. But he’s supposedly been in business for many years. His WW reviews are stellar but I’m not sure if I trust the reviews off of one site, even though it is a wedding site. He did take a while to send his revised quote but also included a contract.

Would you feel the same or am I just being paranoid?

I don't think you're being paranoid but that's probably because I'm the same way as you. I actually had an experience like this with a venue I saw when I was still looking for one. I came across them from another venue site (Eventective) and they sounded amazing. They were in a great area, were offering exactly what we wanted, had a BEAUTIFUL venue, and even were in my price range - sounded too good to be true, I thought I hit the jackpot. They had great reviews on Eventective but not on any other website. Couldn't find reviews on Google or anything, so I was kind of sketchy but decided to meet up with them.

-All in all, they ended up flaking on me and never replied to me when I was ready to sign the contract with them, even went in to talk to them and they dodged me like a bullet - so I knew it wasn't meant to be.

Moral of the story was that "If It's too good to be true, it probably is". That being said though, sometimes It's great to take a chance because you end up finding a hidden gem!

What I try and do is contact people who have left reviews if I'm able to, like how I did on that website and ask those people how their process was. A lot of them ended up responding and letting me know their experience and they seemed real, not like a bot that just leaves good reviews, but who knows with online.

I think if you're having second thoughts, you shouldn't go for it. Maybe you can ask for a trial from them to prove their work to you to make sure they're legit? I don't know if they do that kind of thing but it can't hurt to ask.

I would also ask if maybe he used to go under a different name? It just seems kind of weird to me that somebody who's been in business for years has no record anywhere except for WW.

Personally, I wouldn't go for it. Reviews to me are everything because people are actually taking the time out to say why they had a good or bad experience and I weigh those comments heavily...I would feel very uncomfortable if I were in your situation, but that's just me.

Could you ask him for refrences if past clients so you could actually talk to someone who has used his services? I would be concerned that there were no other reviews, but this is a huge platform and may just be where he does most of his business.

No your not being paranoid...I will do the same...today I start looking at venues and I will read the reviews to make sure I’m getting my money worth...you have to be cautious about a lot when it comes to your big day. Like you said you make sure to check out 3 different ones in each category..so continue to do the same thing
