Any Brides using a Lazo and Arras during ceremony?

Thecane428, on August 5, 2014 at 11:34 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

We are both Mexican American but we were raised in different Christian denominations. On his side of the family they don't do Lazo and arras but on my family they do. His uncle (a pastor) will perform the ceremony. We are also doing a unity cross for his side. But I am already stressed to see how all of this will turn out... and especially teaching his uncle what to say during the Lazo and arras.

Any brides doing it?

I am! I had no idea nicaraguans did it, then my mom was all "you must, you must!"so now we are. It'll only add about 20mins extra for the Arras and Lazo.

I love it; in fact, i just finished a ceremony with the lasso/veil/coins. The way that I do it, wrapped around the vows and rings, it really only adds about five minutes.

I am and we're actually using my parents lasso from their wedding Smiley smile

I don't have any input of what your uncle would say though, we haven't discussed it with our priest yet.

I am doing it since it's a pretty traditional Filipino thing. It shouldn't be too stressful to incorporate both aspects of your denominations into the ceremony. Just tell the Uncle the meaning and symbolism of the what you would like and tell him what to say and there you go! He could even go and say, "this ceremony unites the two cultures and traditions together" or something like that.

Lasso and arras are symbolic objects that have no spiritual meaning. They have personal meaning and commitment only to the bride and groom. I feel if anything a Lasso is a symbol of unity. In reality Man is not the sole provider any more. Brothers and sisters keep Jesus in your heart, not objects or idols. Poor people marry without these material things.
