Any brides also healthcare workers?

E.F., on May 14, 2020 at 4:06 PM Posted in Community Conversations 1 15
Any other healthcare worker brides feeling totally overwhelmed? i feel like the caseload is much lower than before but theres always the constant anxiety and fear of getting infected and all the procedures of donning/ doffing PPE. if thats not exhausting enough having to plan a wedding that might need to be postponed is just too much to handle

i feel if we were home we’d have more time to sulk which is good that were not... also maybe would be less stress than going to work. who understands me??

I am a healthcare worker, and girl, I feel you.

Our 300 person wedding for 4/25 was postponed and we had a small ceremony instead. We postponed to 6/27 but now are postponing that, too.

I have actually worked in clinic, and from home during all of this, and I gotta say, both have pros and cons. When I work from home, I feel stressed out because all I can think about is wedding things that I can't really plan because every time I plan, it falls apart. There is so much from home that I either cannot do, or is a lot harder to do than if I am in clinic. But working in clinic causes all the other things, like ppe frustrations, added coworker and patient stressors, and the extreme exhaustion.

I cannot wait for all this to be over so we can celebrate our wedding, but also so work smooths out.

    You are not alone!

I’m a nurse, and work is definitely keeping me busy where I don’t think about our wedding as much. I’m pretty proud of the management team we have where I work because they’re aggressively trying to keep COVID out of our building. We still have a ton of patients on iso for precautionary measures, but so far fingers crossed we’ve been doing good. We did postpone our big wedding celebration, but are still getting married on our original date. I cried about it twice, but eventually got over it and now I’m super excited to marry my man on our original date. Having two types of weddings is kind of fun because I can make them both very different from each other.

I'm a nurse and some days I feel hopeful that we will still have our wedding this fall and other times I feel like its just not gonna happen on our original date. I think we just have too much "knowledge" flying at us all the time about statistics and many smart people predicting things that are just all over the board. I don't know whether I am coming or going half the time. For now, I am just focused at work, and when I am home I try really hard not to fret about the unknown and plan my wedding accordingly.

I totally hear you! I don't think non-healthcare people realize how exhausting it can be donning and dothing PPE and thinking about minimizing risk of infection. My fiance lives in another state and I am thankful I don't have to worry about possibly giving him anything and yet at the same time it is isolating for me. We haven't seen each other in 2 months now. Also, through work I have seen the internal prediction models and it is very disheartening. Things are going to continue to get worse before they get better. Because of that we are looking to postpone our big wedding this fall and, if we can meet up, have a small civil ceremony in the coming months.

I am using the fact that it looks like we will have two weddings to have fun playing with different options. At this point they look like they are going to be polar opposites of each other.

I'm an LVN and work at a hand surgery center. I personally only wear the PPE because I'm made to. I'm not in any way worried about this virus, except for possibly having to come up with a plan B. Im actually heartbroken that my last child isn't having a high school graduation. As far as planning the wedding/reception we're done, we're just making payments to vendors and should be done with that within the next 2 months. I'm staying positive and continuing forward until we are told we can't.

I'm a CNA in a nursing facility. We just got our first positive case a few weeks ago. To be safe, I didn't work a little over 2 weeks leading up to my elopement. Luckily I'm PRN so it's no big deal. I will do the same leading up to my big ceremony. Not just because of covid, but we have flu, norovirus, etc. I didn't want to take the risk of catching anything before my marriage or obviously spreading anything. Since I crossed state border, my facility requires me to self isolate for 2 weeks before returning to work. I totally understand. This past week I found that as soon as people found out I'm a healthcare worker, they automatically didn't want around me. I get it, but I also had to explain I took proper precautions leading up to traveling...

Wow thats crazy. im in NY in one of the hardest hit areas around the city. in march we turned my floor into a covid unit. we had hundreds of positive cases but my antibody test came negative so PPE works. theres nothing to be afraid of if use the right precautions.

That is tough. Not the type of thing you need on top of arranging an elopement because your original plans were disrupted.
