Anxiety and fighting.

Gabrielle, on November 3, 2019 at 12:20 PM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 5
Hi everyone, so our wedding is around 5 months away and I’ve been getting lots of anxiety. We both come from broken homes so I think we are both worried about making it work and in turn we seem to keep arguing, about stupid stuff.

Any tips?

I think a lot of people go through this when wedding planning. It’s stressful to plan, finances are always stressful, and you’re getting ready to make a huge commitment that can be nerve wracking, especially if you haven’t had successful marriages in your family that you’ve seen. Just take a step back from planning and talk about what’s going on. Make sure you’re communicating with each other and find the root of the problem so you can address it. Just remember you’re getting to marry your best friend! It’s going to be an amazing day, try to relax and enjoy the planning!

I agree with PP, this is totally normal. Not only is the process of wedding planning extremely stressful, but so is the fact that you're making probably the biggest commitment of your life. Take some time to step away from wedding planning and discuss what you're arguing over. Couples counseling could be super helpful in navigating these issues and teaching you effective communication skills that you can use now and for the length of your marriage.

Take time away from wedding planning to just focus on each other. Wedding planning can be so overwhelming and stressful so that just adds to the stress of things.

Maybe consider some counseling before the wedding to make sure you learn how to communicate successfully in your marriage. After all isn't the key to happy relationships is to communicate?
