Antler Rings- anyone?

cupcakecardinal, on October 26, 2016 at 8:58 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

My FH is in love with the idea of having a deer antler wedding band! Wondering if anyone or their current or future spouse has an antler ring? If so, do you have any pros/cons to share regarding durability and how well they hold up? Also, please share pics! TIA

The big thing is to find a jeweler that seals the antler, or it will rot. Much like the wooden bands you can find.

I really like the styles of https://jewelrybyjohan.com

DH and I were going to get meteorite rings from there, but we decided we couldn't afford them. Maybe in the future.

We've mainly been looking on Etsy at rings. I'm just not sure how well they hold up with everyday use? When you go to a jewelry store, they tell you how hard and durable all the metals are. Since FH works with his hands a lot, I'm wondering how well this would hold up.

I would seriously consider asking Johan. As I said, he has a process to seal the antler so it doesn't rot... but I don't know how it holds up to damage.

There's a shop on Etsy called EireEcoRings that we've been looking at. They have wooden and antler rings, and the owner gives very helpful care instructions for the rings. You could always ask the owner how it holds up to daily use, that was my concern about that type of ring too.

I have no experience or input regarding antler rings, but I wanted to comment about Jennifer's comment... My husband and I got his wedding band from Johan and it's a meteorite one. Andrew really wanted something different and loved the look of this one. He's worn the ring for about one year now and the pattern is no longer distinguishable :-( It just looks like a grey section between the sides of the band. He still likes it because it's his ring and it is meteorite, even if it doesn't look like it used to. I guess we probably should have gotten something to rub into the meteorite every day to protect it, but we didn't. He also takes it off to shower, so I don't know if it'd look even "worse" if he wore it non-stop. Just something to consider regarding meteorite rings.

Link to the ring, and picture of what it looks like initially attached...
