Antique Ivory Wedding Gown? Pics Please!

Brittani, on September 9, 2020 at 12:58 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

Hello!

I am one of those old-fashioned girls who loves the look of an all white or ivory gown, but it seems like everybody loves the "ivory over nude/blush/sand" look right now, and that's all I can find in samples at the dress shops. I was about ready to pull the trigger on the Rebecca Ingram Courtney gown, and was planning to order it in ivory over ivory. However, at the last minute, we realized that the gown only comes in something called "antique ivory." Does anybody know what antique ivory is, and how it is different from ivory? Better yet, has anyone worn the Courtney gown in antique ivory? Pictures please if you have them!

I believe that "antique ivory" is really similar to ivory. It is still the "whitish" color that you are looking for. I have not however seen the dress that you are referring to. Have you tried googling it?

Yes, I've been googling all over the place and I can only find photos of the dress in ivory over blush, ivory over lavender, or ivory over light gold. I wish the designer would carry photos of the dress in each color combo!

Antique ivory will be a shade between pure white and ivory. It is a warmer shade than white, but not as warm as ivory. Here is a Rebecca Ingram dress in antique ivory. Hope this helps!

I can't speak to "antique ivory," but daughter's dress was a Rebecca Ingram. What we noticed was that any dress where both the outer layers and the under layers were the same color, the details of the outer layer/lace layer visually (both in person and in photos) stood our much less than they did when the under layer had some, even subtle, color difference from the outer layer. Daughter ended up choosing her dress in the ivory/pale gold combination, and it was stunning. To look at the dress you would say it was an ivory wedding gown, but the very subtle difference between the ivory lace/tulle layers and the pale gold lining resulted in the gorgeous details of the lace and beading "popping" more than they did in the ivory/ivory combination. In addition, the dress had a soft ethereal "glow" -- I'm the mom, so clearly biased, but daughter was absolutely stunning in her dress. This isn't a great photo because I cropped it significantly and it lost clarity, but you can get an idea how much the lace details stood out.

Thank you! From the snippet in the picture, that actually looks a lot like the dress I am looking at. I will definitely consider the light gold option as well!

If you don't mind me asking, did you get the dress bustled? How did the bustle look with the light gold underneath?

Here are photos (again cropped to remove identifying details...) of her train unbustled and bustled (the gold under layer had a three-point (ribbon) underbustle and the lace/tulle layers had a three-point (button & loop) overbustle). I've also included a photo where she has her dress hiked up and you can see the actual color of the pale gold lining -- it was very light and subtle -- kind of almost a soft vanilla.... Good luck choosing! (Her dress was Allison.)

(we didn't realize until she got her photos back that the underbustle could have been smoothed out better...oh, well! Smiley winking )

Thanks! I don't like to post photos that would identify her. Also, obviously, any dress is going to look very different depending on the lighting.... The first photo with her MOHs was in shaded outdoor natural light; the door photo was inside the venue w/o any additional light except what was coming through the windows; the dancing/bustled photo was at night in the reception venue with minimal lighting from the overhead twinkle lights and low ambient lighting; and the walking photo was full daylight.... And, of course all the photos suffered in quality from my cropping. The dress color was kind of a chameleon, but I think they all are! Good luck choosing! Smiley heart
