Another trunk show question!

Rachel, on October 28, 2020 at 2:34 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12
Hi again, everyone! I should have thought about all of these questions before I made my original post, but... what happens when a wedding dress you try on is too small? I’m only asking because I read that the Blush by Hayley Paige Spring 2020 trunk show will only have the gowns in size 10. I know that bridal sizes differ from normal sizes (I’m a street size 10), so this part has me a little nervous. I know that there are ways to work around gowns that are too big/too small, but has anyone had experience with trying on gowns where they don’t fit 100%? I know that they just order your gown in your correct size anyways, but still looking for input here Smiley smile. Thanks for everyone’s kind feedback!

My experience is this...When I tried on dresses at our local boutique I mostly tried on dresses in a size 16 as I am about a size 12 in street clothes. While the 16 was toooo large, the consultants have all sorts of tricks up their sleeves to make it fit and look as good as it can on you. Dresses that I did try on that were smaller, they just didn’t close them all the way in the back and put a modest piece on any exposed areas. Don’t worry too much about it, most ladies aren’t the model size and it’s common for the consultants to make adjustment to make you feel beautiful!

I can't speak to any specifics of a trunk show or Haley Paige gowns, but generally, the consultants will be able to work with you. They'll use clips and/or elastic closures to give you a pretty good idea of how you'll look in a dress that is made for your measurements. However, I'd guess that as a street-sized 10, you will be fairly close to fitting in the samples. (If there were a bigger discrepancy, like you were a street-sized 16 or something, it would be more difficult because a plus-sized dress might be somewhat different in the way it is constructed, but I wouldn't expect that to be the case as a size 10). I did a quick Google search and found the following info regarding the measurements associated with HP dresses: https://luxereduxbridal.com/pages/blush-by-hayley-paige-size-chart. I wear a size 10, and they are pretty close to my regular measurements.

Daughter generally wears a size 8. Some size 8 samples were actually too big on her because they tend to get stretched with so many people trying them on. (That may not be true of dresses at a trunk show -- I don't know how many brides have tried them on.) At Casablanca, they actually easily zipped daughter into a size 6 (it was probably very stretched...); daughter joked she might buy that dress so she could say her wedding gown was a size 6! Smiley winking

Bottom line, I'd expect they will be prepared to help brides representing a wide range of sizes try on the trunk show samples. Like I said, you should be fairly close to the "right size" for their samples. Try not to worry and overthink too much! Smiley heart

Is it a sample sale or trunk show? I went to Kleinfeld and tried on 3 Hayley gowns. One which i picked (Nash gown) was a big big at a bridal 12. I tried on one of her gowns and it was a 20. It may just depend on the salon. For reference im 5’11 36D and I’d probably fit perfectly in a 10

Hi, Emily! It is a trunk show. ☺️ Not quite sure why they’re only doing size 10s, but that’s what the info says? Your info for your experience definitely helps, thank you!Another trunk show question! 1

That looks fun! That’s definitely weird it’s only size 10 because she is size inclusive! From what I’ve seen on say yes to the dress they can put fabric to help close if it doesn’t fit. But also keep in mind samples are usually stretched out so it may be more like a 12.

Depending upon the material it could fit you better than you think, however the bridal shops usually have clips that stretch like a bungee cord. So the areas where the dress fastens/closes they will use those to hold the dress in place for you while you try it on.

I bought my pronovia wedding dress at a Bridal Expo Where they were selling samples. I bought my dress for 1400. Originally priced at 3000. I'm surprised she's only carrying size 10. The expo had from 6 to 16. The dress is perfect. I just have to fix a button or two but there aren't any rips.

Almost all the dresses I tried on were too small for me they just clipped the back instead of zipping it. There was only one that was too small to fit over my hips so they held it in front to get an idea of what it would look like. I can send you pictures of the clips if you want.

I was going to try to send you a private message but it doesn’t look like it’ll allow me to send pictures that way.

Thank you so much for all of this information! Smiley smile This is very helpful, I really appreciate it! After hearing about your daughter's experience and checking out the size chart, I'm not TOOOO far off from being able to fit into a 10. Thanks again! Smiley heart Smiley heart Smiley heart

I think you'll be totally fine! You're close enough to imagine what it will look like in your size. I'm a size 22-24 bridal (in between sizes) and I got on sample dresses as small as a 16. While they definitely didn't close in the back, I felt like it was enough that I could see the "gist" of the dress and if I liked it or not.
