Annoying wedding guests

Honeybee, on January 3, 2018 at 1:22 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 23
Let's talk about one of my wedding guests who RSVPed for herself, her husband, her son, her mother, AND her sister in law!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't want any drama, plus, we had the extra room, so I went ahead and accepted all the RSVPs. I confirmed with her as well. Come the day of the wedding, and she shows up by HERSELF!!!! I looked over at her table, and I'm thinking, "What in the world?? Why are there so many empty seats at this table???" She never had the courtesy to message me beforehand to let me know the others wouldn't be able to make it. 😡 Hoping none of you future brides deal with guests like this.

You are a kinder person than I. I would have declined her extra RSVPs to start. She's lucky you didn't blow your lid!

We had 11 no shows. A lot were couples who had both RSVP'd but only one person came, but some were family members. All but 2 people contacted us with an explanation or something after the fact, but I'm still pretty salty about it.

My fiance's aunt invited her daughter, her daughter's partner, their kid AND her son. All live out of state and all claiming to come :/ not gonna lie...hoping for snow in their areas before the wedding.

Ugh, that sucks! I think the worst that happened to us was one guest who came to the ceremony and cocktail hour (we know he was there because he's in pictures), who left before we entered the reception. We were totally confused until he reached out to us the next day to say he'd come down with a bug and went home.

We had a couple (husband/wife) who was very excited about our top shelf open bar and couldn't believe we weren't making them pay for their drinks. I got pulled aside by my wedding planner later that evening who gave me the heads up that this couple had been cut off by the bartender (mainly the wife), and now they were making a scene with the banquet manager and they might be coming to me next. Instead, they promptly left. They were the only guests who did not bring a gift or card. I would not have even paid attention to that fact but for their bad behavior.

You are waaaaay nicer than me: I would have called her (not text, not email, but called) and said, the invite was for you and SO, if you can't accept that I will see you at Christmas!

    She is a rude person.

Not sure where this trend of bringing everyone you want to a wedding started but it needs to stop. Now.

People can only take advantage of you to the extent that you let them. I would have told her that "there must have been a misunderstanding. The invitation was for the two of you. We are unable to accommodate the extra guests. If that means you will be unable to attend, we will miss you at the wedding."

People who are rude enough to rsvp for extra guests are rude enough to no-show.

I haven’t sent out my invites yet but I’m super worried people are going to rsvp people that I don’t want there or never invited so we’ll see how that goes...
