Annnd the chair covers don't fit.

Squish, on November 6, 2014 at 8:16 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

Our venue is completely open to bringing whatever vendors we chose in, but a lot of the "extras" must be paid for ourselves or not provided. Chair covers are one of them.. They have regular chairs and (it's a barn) we figured the chair covers would help dress things up more, or add a nice touch.

To rent or buy chair covers here, we cannot find them cheaper than 3.00 a chair.. With 200 .. that's a crap ton. However! My mom found a lawyer selling 200 and she bargained with them to 75 cents a piece or something like that.. they're nice chair covers that fit "standard chairs," so we went ahead and bought sashes for all of them. We sent a chair cover to the venue just to make sure it would fit - aaaaand low and behold, it doesnt. We're stuck.

We thought of asking the family member who's altering my dress to alter all of the chair covers, but would that be worth it? They mentioned cutting down the back to give it more room to fit all of the way down, and she will have to hem the cut

I definitely think it's worth it to have them fixed. They don't look good the way they are now.

Oh the debate isn't whether to have them fixed, its how in the world to have them fixed. I wouldn't leave them this way.. we may be getting married in a barn but damn. lol

Id ask the person doing the alterations what she thinks.

I hated my chairs initially but once the whole room was done it didn't really matter. So I don't think it's worth $3 per chair to get new ones.

Ooh ok haha. hmm maybe she can add extra fabric to make it longer? At least the sash will cover some of the back.

I think to alter 200 chair covers is a VERY time consuming job and not worth the money you'd have to pay to do so. I suggest selling them. You may even be able to make a profit. Either buy a set that fits or go without.

Hahahaha well I'll keep you in mind but the stupid things have to be fixed because I'm not spending that money on all new ones...

We can fix them and if we can't get rid of them I can always sell them to you after the wedding.

How am I supposed to know what fits? Dont you have to buy them to try them on? We were told they were "normal chairs," and "normal covers." We even took measurements and they matched so.. I don't know what else to do other than alter them..

Why dont you look into renting chairs? they are usually only like 1.00 each.. maybe go to a rental company and see if they have a chair the covers will fit

Try different chairs or getting them fixed. YOu can't use them the way they are. I know a lot of us want to do as much as we can by ourselves or find a cheaper way of things, but in the end a lot of times it comes out to just spend the extra. Local vendors would've known what the chair are like or would be able to test some of their covers out to make sure they will work verse doing it this way. I need a few table clothes and the company is $30.00 each or I can get them on smartyhadaparty for like 9.00 something. I've ordered one runner and one table cloth to see the quality and ironing them, etc. I think to avoid the hassle I will just spend the extra so I don't have to deal with it.

I would rent chairs. From your picture those chairs do not look like "normal" banquet chairs, they look pretty wide.

I think the concept of altering 200 chair covers is terribly annoying. I mean, if you have the funds to it and a patient enough person, sure, that's one solution.

If it was me though, I'd sell them, and then rent ones that properly fit. Or, even better, rent chairs that don't need covers.
