Angel Oak Ceremony

Grant, on January 15, 2018 at 10:53 AM Posted in South Carolina Planning 0 7

Has anyone been to a ceremony at Angel Oak? We are planning our ceremony there, but the website says a max of 25 people, we have about 40 and are wondering if that would be an actual problem? Any experiences or details are helpful, thanks in advance!

No idea! I briefly looked at the Battery but same deal. I saw pictures of what I thought were certainly more people (and they say to include everyone including the officiant in the 25) but I knew there'd be more like 50 for me.
Let us know if you find anything out. That's a sweet spot.

I saw something that says you can't have any chairs either....is that accurate? so you can't bring folding chairs for your guests? what if you had old or handicapped people...??

Do not get married here. Just had my ceremony. They only allow 25. No questions asked. We were told we had to leave at 4:30. We had a permit. The park is open until 5. They were very rude and locked 2 of my people outside of the gate. I only had 5 people. They won’t even do weddings next year. The guard followed everyone around the whole time. My
planner is pulling her other weddings from them after the situation. The park was quiet. Hardly anyone there and we didn’t have to be treated that way.

Sorry for your experience Brittany, we ended up having our wedding there on March 31 and it was absolutely perfect. We spoke to the park employees the day before and walked through how the ceremony would progress and they were more than accommodating. We had a shuttle bus that brought our guests and they cleared a parking spot right outside the gate for us. During the ceremony they even helped usher strangers away from the tree so we could get beautiful pictures. We were in and out inside of an hour and on to the rest of our day with the help of the park employees.

We had zero help. Like even when I walked in they told me to move out of their way. Like my feelings were completely crushed. They let a whole tour bus come in and get right in front of us. Then locked my family out. Yelled at my planner. She’s calling the city. Like they said at 12 that day they would help keep people directed away from us. But when we got there it totally swapped. We love that tree. we love Charleston but that day killed our view of it.

We just got shafted by the rec dept regarding a wedding scheduled a year ago for October 23 this year at the Angel Oak. Got a permit, paid $170. Went there yesterday (Sunday 10/4/2020) to check out parking, where to stand ,etc. I just happened to ask a park employee about where it would actually take place. Was told all “events” were cancelled due to covid. Apparently that applies only to Angel Oak. All other Charleston county parks are open for weddings, etc. There were dozens of people enjoying the park yesterday. Problem is, we were never notified. I’m not sure what would have happened if we had just showed up on wedding day, expecting a marriage to take place. I called the rec dept today. They could care less. You want your wedding to be special, but this is bs. MOB
