Ancient Egyptian Theme

mystqlv, on March 18, 2009 at 6:48 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

I am doing an ancient egyptian theme for our reception. The colors are black and gold possibly teal depending on the venue we choose. I am stuck on the rest of the decor and food. I've come to a creative brain freeze on it really. Any one have any ideas that may help or know any websites?

Well, the Holy Grail of Egyptian themed weddings would be to hold it at The Luxor hotel in Las Vegas. Otherwise,

What about a cake made like a pyramid? With some Egytian writing on the sides

Using the ankh in your theme (on napkins, etc.)

What about an egytian type statues on the tables (Rah, etc.)

Hieroglyphics on table cards, or naming the tables using hieroglyphics, or names of famous Egyptians (Cleopatra, Ramses, Tut, etc.)

I think lots of gold or bronze, when I think of Egypt.

Make sure "Walk like an Egyptian" by the Bangles is on your DJ list.

Or, King Tut, by Steve Martin

Here are some pics I found.

    FOOD:

    Lamb (kabobs?)

    Yogurt

    Lemon

    dates

    honey

    baklava

    olives

    eggplant

    rice

    flatbread

Sounds very cool. Wish I was invited!!!

Oooohhhh! that sound like sooo much fun. I agree with all of the last posters ideas. the only add on would be flowing fabric decor in white maybe. if you can find some small replicas of the (and i know this sounds strange) canopic organ jars. The ones with the gods heads on them, if you can find mini ones it would make a cool favor.

There are also palm trees in Egypt.

the eye of horus would be an easy thing to add to a lot of items.

Check out this website, it has a lot of cool stuff

White gauzy drapy fabrics are good.

A good centerpiece would be tall vase painted gold, square is a plus.

Gold chairs if you can, or at least rent beige slipcovers.

Use lots of bright colors, go for luxurious!

My sis is an Egyptophile, and that's what she said.

Try looking at some of the accessories at www.designtoscano.com

they have some amazing items for props and tables.

I do fab events in So Cal and use peacock feathers and reeds, this will bring in that blue and gold with a natural feel. try parchment tone linens with gold sheer overlays. use white sheer linen fabric as draping for table displays with urn amphora shaped jars and Scarab beetle place card holders.

Enlarge Heiroglyphic prints for screens or project Gobo style on the walls for a very theatrical look.

Palm tree favors or pyramids would fit.

If you want a fun touch do a grooms cake shaped like a Mummy or add in a few Pith helmets for the Kids tables for the Jr explorers.

For floral decor use Paparus reeds and long slender flowers. Do a search of the Nile flowers for a refrence and use similar current flowers. Lily of the nile or agapanthus in tall slender vases.

have fun and take lots of pictures!!
