Amount of Songs on Playlist

Kelsey, on May 16, 2019 at 2:37 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 7
For those of you that have done a playlist through Spotify or something similar for the reception, how many songs did you put on the playlist? Our reception will be 4-5 hours and I’m not sure how many songs to put on our playlist.

I'd say most songs are about 3 minutes long on average. For 5 hours, that's 300 minutes, so roughly 100 songs. I'd have plenty of songs to cover for 5 hours even if it only actually lasts 4 hours.

I mean, it really depends on the length of the songs. Between our 3 dance set playlists we have 36 songs. But then there's also background music playlists for during dinner and dessert and what-not. I'm not entirely sure how many songs are on each of those since FH didn't put them in the Google Doc we have going for music yet.

If you get on the computer and use Spotify, it will tell you how long your playlist is.

If your using spotify the playlist will tell you how long it takes to play. So I'd day just keep adding songs until it reaches the right length. And a few extra just in case.

You dont even need to be on a PC. If you look at the top of your playlist on your phone and swipe left on it it will show you a second header that will have the playlist time length on it.

We've broken our playlists according to: pre-ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and reception. Pre-ceremony and dinner were roughly 12-15 songs for 45 minutes. Cocktail hour was well... an hour haha.. with about 20-25 songs. Reception was longer at 3 hours with roughly 100 songs.

We are asking all our guests a song suggestion or two if it's a family and they wanna say more than one song on the rsvps! So all of those (if we like them all) plus our dances and anything we picked will be enough for our 4 hour reception. 100 is more than enough for us so idk if we even need to reach 100 songs!
