Amazon Vs. Thankful Registry - Am I missing something?

AyEmVee, on October 26, 2016 at 2:10 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

I’ve been looking into gift registries and I’m trying to figure out the difference between Amazon and Thankful.

I initially stumbled upon Thankful and liked that it told people what you were looking for with the store they can find it at, and then let them choose whether to purchase it online, in store or somewhere else entirely (i.e. the link was to Kohls, but they ended up finding it cheaper at Target). It seems like a good option for both out of towers and locals; millennials and people who prefer the more traditional route. However, Thankful charges you (the couple getting married) $30 to use their service for one year.

Then I started looking more closely at Amazon and found out they had a universal feature as well (links to stores outside Amazon) and allowed people to mark that they purchased the gift elsewhere. (contd in comments)

I guess my question is: what’s the difference? Am I missing something? Sure, Thankful LOOKS nicer, but does that justify paying $30 for it?

Also, is Thankful like Zola where people are giving you money, not actual gifts? If that’s the case I guess I understand the fee a bit more. But this would be a turn off to me personally.

Right now I’m planning on going with Amazon, but I’m curious to see why people have ultimately gone with Thankful. It seems like a no-brainer right now, which is why I feel like I’m missing some key difference between the two.

I've never heard of Thankful, but I personally would stay away from anything that charges you or your guests. Why spend even more money when it's not necessary? There are plenty of normal, free registries and I think Amazon is a good choice if you're looking for the variety and convenience for out of towners

I would just go with Amazon...I would never pay for a registry.

We're using Amazon and it's great so far! We did a lot of research, and Zola even with the updates and thankful didn't seen to match up, just looked pretty..

@Angela, I'm willing to pay a little bit for my guests to have an easy, pleasant experience for anything wedding related. But this one just seems silly.

Amazon is great - can't speak for the other. We received a duplicate gift the other day and they sent me a return label within 24 hours.
