Am i upset for no reason?

Katelyn, on September 6, 2019 at 1:33 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 13

We are having a fairly expensive wedding with around 120 guests. It is 15 days away and the place we are getting our plates from called to inform us that are plates were lost in a move. There are no other plates in the quantity we need from them or from any other rental service in the area.

So far for dinnerware we have gold cutlery and beautiful pearly wine glasses. Now, our only option for plates is a thick plastic.

Will this look cheap or just feel strange with how nice everything else is? I feel like it is not a huge deal but I just feel panicked because we only have two weeks to find a solution.

It sounds like they need to rectify the situation. I assume you signed a contract with them, so I would read over that to see if it mentions anything about this. Otherwise, as far as I see it, they need to purchase replacement plates for their business for you to use or find an equivalent substitution. Maybe you could alternate plate patterns? Or perhaps they start making phone calls for you to find another company who has what you need. If it’s not a local company, they should pay the extra travel fees since this was their error. I definitely would not be using plastic plates.

Could you do a mix of 2 plate designs to get the quantity you need from this vendor? It might even look intentional.

Unfortunately, plastic plates will not look good with the rest. Is there anything else they are able to do? Like go half on rental plates?

I 100% agree with this. If you signed a contract, then they should have to rectify the situation. If they cannot find any replacement plates, then I would expect a 100% refund for the plates ordered. I'm unsure what your décor is, but our wedding is quite formal and we are using gold flatware and glass wine glasses. We are using mismatched white china with ours, and it looks great. That might be an option for you as well.

I second this. Mix and match plates would look better than plastic. Plus the onus is on them (hopefully) if it was lost in transit.

I would not be okay with that solution. IMO, plastic plates don't belong at any wedding, let alone a fancy one.

IMO, they 100% need to rectify the situation.

I'd be pissed. I agree with above posters, they need to fix it or do a mix and match setting.

You definitely have good reason to be upset. I think PPs suggestions of alternating plate patterns is really great.

I agree with what has already been said. I would not use plastic plates. Try to find some other way so you can get the quantity you need and still use china even if it is mismatched.

Definitely review your contract. If they lost the plates, they better get a move on replacing them before your wedding. You contracted them and likely paid or put a deposit down for them to do what was agreed upon. For them to not hold up their end of the contract is wrong. It should not be your responsibility to have to find a replacement 2 weeks out from your wedding.

I would be furious if our catering staff tried to put down plastic plates at our wedding, so I think you are in the right. But we paid specifically for our china rentals so we picked the plates.
