Am i Planning too Early?

Celeste, on February 24, 2020 at 3:03 PM Posted in Planning 1 13

My husband and I have been culturally married for almost 2 years now. We got married April 07, of 2018 but we didn't have an American Ceremony or a reception. We know that we want to keep our wedding date as April 07th but want in in 2023. We're having a Disney themed wedding and I know I'll end up doing a lot of DIY. We have an estimate of our families and some of our closest friends on a guest list we're thinking of which would be close to 200 people. We're budgeting the wedding to be 20-21K. Is it too soon to be planning?

Nope. I say it’s never too soon. I started almost 2 years before and the year before that I was getting my theme, colors, decor, stationary, vendor list together. It gives to time to have the pick of venue and vendors. Since you want that specific date I’d start shopping for venues now so that you can have your date at the venue you love and so far in advance the rates will be cheaper than in a year or two. Start planning and buying things now because you never know what your financial situation will be and atleast you’ll know your wedding is already taken care of and you have all your extras like decorations and invites already ready to go.

Thanks! I'll def. get started with slowly getting things for the wedding. Most of it is going to be DIY stuff but even then, I know that those costs can add up.

Personally I wouldn't start yet- so much can change in 3 years.. things like dress styles, friendships, relationships, venues may close, lots of vendors may be unwilling to commit this early, etc.

You could absolutely start putting away some $ for it though.

Any reason why you are waiting 5 years between your official wedding and this reception? Could you do it earlier?

I do not think it’s too early to start planning. I think it helps make the process easier.

It was very important for my husband and I to have our cultural wedding first before anything. An American wedding was something we know we had to save up on. We don't want to go into debt for our wedding, we're hacking down debt at this time so we're really cautious on what we spent in what time frame and live on a budget.

Never ever too early to start planning. You get to test ideas and see what works best and decided what could be done better of differently (ex: centerpieces, invites, etc.).

It's never too early! Smiley smile

I would just suggest to not make too many DIY projects so soon because your ideas and style may change over the months. We had a nearly 2 year engagement as well and a lot of the ideas I had in the beginning have been scrapped and my overall vision has been completely changed since then. Good luck!

Never too early. In fact, kudos to you! I wish I'd started earlier (and mine's a year away!) It might have put saving for the wedding higher up on our priority list if I'd been thinking about it five years ago. lol.

P.S. I'm doing a "vow renewal" wedding as well. My hubby is in the military so the first time (10 years ago O.O) was quick and simple at the courthouse.

It is never to early to plan and check the big things off of your list like venue, photographer, etc. I would wait on your dress until a year out(as there will be several new seasons of collections from all wedding designers while you wait), and I would wait to ask your bridal party until a year out too!

Thank-you Smiley smile We for sure aren't buying may DIY stuff right now. We do already have some stuff we use at home as decor from our cultural wedding since we added a Disney flare to it/

How exciting! We know for sure that having the money to pay for our own wedding was a huge thing for us. So we def are in great standings when it comes to not going into debt for our wedding.

I know I have a few idea of dresses I've always liked. As for my bridal party, I know who I want and I'm def not asking until about a year or year and a half out.
