Am i going too early?

Olivia, on July 13, 2021 at 7:06 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14
I am a bride with a long engagement! I am not getting married until december of 2022, but I booked two dress appointments for this month because I am a student and figured I would have more time now versus when the school year starts up. Now I am afraid that I have booked my two appointments TOO early! any advice?

Hello ! It's never to early to try on some nice dresses ;-) But if you buy one now, you shouldn't look at new collections in a couple of months ;-)

Its not too early to look and get idea what you like, I agree with Emilia - once you buy a dress though stop looking. I've heard that you shouldn't purchase a dress until 9 - 12 months before your wedding, I'm hopefully going dress shopping in August for my October 2022 wedding

Never too early to find your dress! Our wedding is set for Jan. 2022 and I started looking at the end of February then purchased mine in March!

I agree with Emilia that if you purchase your dress now, do NOT look at other dresses online and at new collections because I've seen a lot of brides on here that experience buyer's remorse after doing that.

I agree with the others. It's not too early and honestly, the dress sets the stage for the kind of wedding you want -classic, bohemian, modern, etc.

I had no idea about a venue or theme and when I went dress shopping, the woman helping me told me "pick the dress you love and the rest will fall into place." I was skeptical, but it turns out she was right.
Dress shopping was the first step for me after I set my budget.
Good luck at your appointments! Hopefully those are the only two you'll need to find the perfect dress!

I'm getting married Sept 2022 and I went dress shopping in April to get an idea of what I like. And then again last week and I bought my dress last week. They told me it'll take 6-8 months for my dress to come in and I know I'll need a few alterations, I'm very TYPE A, so i wanted to be prepared. So I don't think it's too early!

Styles change through out the year and old styles go on sale and get marked down. So like I said I'd wait to buy.

Personally, I think it is a little early to dress shop. Styles and designs will change so much between now and December 2022. They recommend ordering your dress 10-12 months before your wedding date. I would wait a little longer before purchasing.

I purchased mine in February 2020 and we aren't getting married until this November. I knew what I wanted, I'm not really a trendy person so the fact that new dresses would come out never bothered me. I tried on my dress and instantly loved it and knew that was it. You'll get mixed answers from people because some say go for it while others say it's way too early. You have to do what's best for you! It NEVER hurts to at least try on, even if you don't purchase right away. But it would depend on if you're really into trends and new things coming out as well because there will be many dresses coming out between your appointments and your wedding.

I agree with you, I picked out my dress a year ago. I knew what I wanted and even today I haven't changed my mind. It's all about if you are absolutely sure in your mind that you are 100% sure that is your dress.

I've worked in bridal and it is always better to not go too early. I have seen countless brides get "tired" of the dress they picked out and bought way too soon, mainly because many just can't let go of the looking for one. I would time it so you are looking right around the time you would need to order for your wedding or a little before. Doesn't happen to everyone, but it does happen to many.

I totally get you! I got engaged in July 2020, getting married in July 2022, and am working full-time and going to school part-time. I made an appointment in November 2020 for just myself to figure out what I wanted, without anyone else's opinion. Then my mom came with me to my appointment in April 2021 where I bought my dress! It was probably early if you look at any suggested timelines, but between work and school, and my parents living out of town, it made sense for me. Definitely agree with the others to not look at any other dresses if you make a purchase, including unfollowing bridal boutiques on social media and deleting pins on Pinterest. Good luck!
