Alternatives to Unity Candles

Ashley, on April 21, 2017 at 5:09 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

The venue we are looking at doesn't allow for an open flame, therefore no unity candle. I know sand is a popular alternative, but I didn't know if anyone else had any ideas.

Look into the letter and wine ceremony (if you guys like wine) it is very unique and that is what we are planning on doing.

I would ask them specifically if they will allow a unity candle; I work in a lot of venues that don't allow open flames but the will allow those. They usually assign a staff person to extinguish them and take them away and pack them.

You could do sand, you could do glass (a lot like sand but with, well, glass....)

Honestly, your whole ceremony is a unity ritual.....

Might be an UO but I really dislike the whole unity candle/sand/cross/wine thing. It's hard to see as a guest and hopefully the bride and groom know they're being unified without a separate "thing" to do.

Our vows and ring exchange were our unity ceremony!

We are doing it by a company called Unity in Glass. They send you two bags of glass pieces in any colors you want. At the ceremony you mix them together. After the wedding you send back the mixed pieces and they turn it into beautiful glass sculptures or bowls or other things. Absolutely gorgeous. Kinda pricey though. Starts around $500.

If you want to check it out it's unityinglass.com

(I am in no way affiliated with this company and am not advertising for them, just showing OP what we are doing)

We r doing wine in a box. You write a note to each other on why u married them, feel in love with them and still in love. U lock in a box and don't open for 5 or 10 yrs. there is a sweet script that the pastor reads too.

We are doing sand in 3 colors. One for me, one fh, and one for our children. It is our way of blending our family together and including our children in the ceremony.

We are doing a tree planting with our families and guests putting some soil in before we do our ceremony. FH is a Forester and we are actually planting one of his extra trees from this year.

take 2 drinks and put them together in a big vase ... it will change the color and that will be your toasting drink at reception.... in respect for my wedding our colors are grey and tiffany blue, thinking about having yellow lemonade in one glass ( maybe some alcohol) and the other glass will be blue kool aid and when they mix they make my wedding color.. and i plan ion having a big bowl or dispensor with it already mixed for the guest at the reception
