Alternatives to linen tablecloths

Future Mrs. C, on April 6, 2013 at 7:17 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

With the wire less than four months down to the wedding, I am trying to figure out the linens. I think weddings get way tooo materialistic at times and people spend out out of their means. I cringe at the thought of plastics tablecloths. As a parent to a deceased sibling's teen, I am refusing to go broke for this day. I have looked and looked for used tablecloths. Fabric is expensive, too I refuse to spend even 150- 200 on the linens for the rectangular tablecloths. Renting is not cheaper. Please don't comment if you are only going to be negative about this. I only would like to positive and helpful feedbackSmiley smile I am just curious what some brides have done to be creative to cover their reception tables that IT IS NOT POSSIBLE to blow money just on linens.

How many tables are you having and do you care if they are floor length? Here's a link to a website that seems to be pretty reasonable

    http://www.linentablecloth.com/tablecloths/rectangle-tablecloths.html

If you were to purchase them and then able to get them clean afterwards you could sell them and recoup some of that money. I would love to hear other DIY brides ideas

I searched for a LONG time to find linens that were reasonably priced but wasn't finding much luck. I decided to go ahead and bite the bullet and order cloths from Linentablecloth.com when they were having a sale. I got about 20ish tablecloths for about $140 total. They often have sales and offer free shipping as well so this was my best option. I opted for cloths that were a little shorter than full length to save some money and honestly it was a great choice. With the chairs pushed in it is hardly noticeable. I plan to sell them for a portion of what I spent after the wedding is done.

A few options you may want to consider...depending on your colors: Painters drop cloths. They come in a size almost perfect for rectangle tablecloths. If you use a coupon for them you can find them for a bit cheaper. It just wouldn't work for us, I didn't see myself going to the store 20+ times just to use a coupon on each dropcloth, but if it works for you, go for it.

Also I found some really great vintage curtain panels from goodwill and thrift stores. You could get several of those to put together, if you don't mind mismatching. Check out tradesy.com(previously recycledbride.com) they often have brides sell their cloths on there.

Not sure the style of your wedding, but if you like the shabby chic or rustic vintage look, go to Goodwill or other thrift shop and look for linens there. Another option is to use old bed sheets and cut and sew them to fit the tables. They don't all have to match, just keep them in the color scheme. Hope that helps Smiley smile

Some brides resell their tablecloths, especially if they're neutral or common color. That's also a good way to recover the cost. Obviously there's no guarantee though.

Wowza! Those ARE expensive. I would say keep to a neutral color that way you could sell them afterwards a bit easier. Maybe it's just me, but is anyone going to remember the table clothes later on? I would rather do a plastic and save the $$. But then again....that's probably just me.

Our venue is providing white linens so I bought 18 overlays from linen tablecloth for $50 and free shipping. They're organza n really pretty. They would probably work without the linens under them also. Idk ur budget but that's an idea.

What about Craigslist? Is there a local restaurant that might rent to you?

How many tables (and what size tables) are you needing linens for?

Unfortunately for me the table linens was the one thing I splurged a little on. I ordered Pintuck linens and are hoping to sell them after. For me it gave the venue a little something extra since I decided to not get real flowers. I figure the money I saved from the flowers I could put towards these and still be ahead.

My centerpieces will only run about $15 when all is said and done. Again, going with the Pintuck ones gave me room to go simpler on the centerpieces. Sadly I know no one will even notice but me. Smiley sad
