Alternatives to Guest Books. What is everyone doing?

RhnCasi419, on September 12, 2015 at 7:32 AM Posted in Planning 0 61

I was talking to a wedding coordinator this past week. She is a staff member at my daughter's day program who just got into the business and we were talking "wedding shop-talk" ... she asked me how the planning was going. I'm down to the small details now with about a month to go. She was saying that hardly anyone does guest books anymore. She threw out 2 options, something about a tree and sharpie markers ... and another idea that I forgot about (obvs I guess I didn't care about it to forget about it?) What is everyone doing as alternatives to guest books. I'm not having any luck searching this on my own.

We're going to have 3x5 note cards made up. On the front people can write their name address and phone numbers and the backs they can write well wishes, date ideas, or anything else they want to. This way we can start our own address book and remember everyone who was able to come.

ETA: grammar is hard without the first cup of coffee.

I find it hard to believe that nobody does guest books anymore? I have seen one at just about every wedding I've been to. We will be doing a traditional guest book. I've seen people do the well wishes cards like Anelyse mentioned. I think that's a good idea too.

Just don't do what we did and wait until the night before the wedding. Actually it was two nights before the wedding, but it was the night before we left home (destination wedding). I had given up on having a guest book, but my groom decided we needed one. He found this idea on pinterest so I stay up late stenciling our names and date on the paper. The jar was a stamp. It is similar to the tree idea. The bride and groom put a pair of fireflies in the jar and the guests put ones outside. One person even stamped their baby's foot, it was cute.

We're doing a shutterfly photo book also. I like the idea of having something that can be displayed around the home. We also considered having a large photo of our engagement in a photo mat and people could sign the mat.

We used a tree canvas we found on etsy with sharpie paint pens. Everyone loved it and it's currently hanging in our home. We also has a photobooth and those who took pictures added a copy of their strip and a message. Currently our coffee table conversation piece. Love them both.

Our photo booth provides a wedding album. The guests get a copy of their pics and the other copy goes into the book and they sign with a message. All sorted by the photo booth guys.

I have been to about 4 weddings in the past yr 1/2 and I have not seen a "book". Lots other unique ideas like a signed picture frame, or rocks in a vase. I think we are doing a big S to match our colors guest would sign with a sharpie..... Check out Etsy lots of ideas

I found a 16x20 pic frame with matting at Marshalls. The size of the pic opening is 5x7. I'm going to write on a 5x7 card "thank you for coming to our wedding" (something along those lines), have people sign the matting, and after the wedding I will replace the sign with a wedding pic. We will hang the frame somewhere in the house.

I'm doing a 2ft letter A for them to sign. I spray painted it silver and will hang and will prop it behind something on our mantle.

I made a photobook with some of our favorite photos and our engagement photos and I made sure to leave enough white spaces so guests could leave messages in them. It will be just like back in high school when our friends signed our yearbooks!

This was our guestbook alternative. We got it from etsy. It includes the skyline of the city we got married in (New Orleans) and a cartoon image reproduced from one of our engagement photos, every signed in the background.

Almost all the weddings we've been to lately were sign something that hangs on the wall. We did that plus a book (yea free shutterfly)

I never liked the idea of a traditional guestbook, I know it would just get thrown into a box eventually. I think what I would like to do, is either make a photo book of the engagement pictures for people to sign through, (Which quite possibly may end up in a box also) or a puzzle, everyone signs a piece and you two get to put it together later and read everyone's piece. I also like the idea of the tree and everyone signs a leaf to hang, or adds their finger print. I've seen people have wine corks to sign, have wooden signs with their initials, have a polaroid camera for them to take pictures and sign... Lots of ideas out there Smiley smile

My friend just had her wedding and their "guest book" was a wooden bench everyone signed. Her DH made it, I thought it was perfect for them.
